Do we really need it? Is there a way to turn it off just for visitor messages? They're pretty close to chat as it is, unlike the forum, so it would be nice if it could be taken care of.

[Edit] That's the lower limit, in case that wasn't clear. I guess "character minimum" would have been a better choice of words for the title.

Hummmmm?

Beyond my scope of knowledge, have to wait for Thomas or Dutch on this one. If they don't answer it soon, try a PM to Dutch.

I can set a maximum amount of characters, but not a minimum. If you go to your options, and edit options under options and settings you can turn it off, or limit it to messages from moderators only:

This forum features a visitor messaging system that allows members to send messages to one another publicly.

If you do not want to receive visitor messages, you may disable the visitor messaging system.
Enable Visitor Messaging

You may limit the usage of your visitor messages to just moderators and your contacts.
Limit usage of Visitor Messages to Contacts and Moderators

p.s. sorry for the late reply.

That's not quite what I mean. I mean I get a "the message you have entered is too short" message when I don't enter at least 20 characters. I want that to not be there. It's fine for forum posts, like I said, but visitor messages are pretty much on par with chat, so I don't see any reason for it being there. If there's a way to disable the limit on visitor messages but keep it on the forum without too much trouble, I would appreciate the change.

I don't have a problem with people other than contacts and moderators/admin/etc. leaving visitor messages at the moment, but if I do I'm glad to know I can do something about it. Thanks.
