Gmail doesn't show Kana characters

I receive "reply to thread" notifications to my gmail mail account. The Kana characters are not shown, instead their respective unicode numbers in HTML format are shown.

I don't think gmail has anything to do with this error, because I properly receive email from other websites that are using Japanese or any other unicode characters.

I've never had that problem on my computer at home. Maybe its just a symptom of how Gmail parses the message from JREF.

My guess is that it's related to the reason why Japanese text is so prone to mojibake on Jref. I wish I had a solution, but unfortunately I don't.
