I've definitely made this mistake in the past. How do you normally avoid this? Just don't use a giving verb at all?
For example instead of:
千円を貸してあげます you would say 千円を貸します？

Exactly 千円，貸しますよ。After counterwords ( in this case 千円) you should not use the particle を
