Simple fact. Japan can ruin an original franchise with a single sequel. I say this because people seem to revere Japanese POP-CULTURE movies as if they were ALWAYS superior to their other-kin counterparts... but generally, sequels in Japan are wretched. In my over-opinionated opinion.
That's probably because Jisatsu Circle was a horrible movie to begin with! It's not too hard to improve on something so messy and incoherent as that film!I have found this true with practically every Japanese sequel, except for the sequel to "Suicide Club", "Noriko's Dinner Table". I thought the sequel was a much more interesting movie than its predecessor.

I'll have to check out Noriko's Dinner Table... thanks for the head's up. I think it's a trilogy, is it not?
Try watching Edward Yang's movie Yi Yi, it clocks in around 3 hours (It's a Taiwanese movie by the way), and is probably my favourite movie... It's just soooooh difficult to get anyone to watch with you!Now that you mention it, I think Sion Sono announced a third movie. However I'm not sure if they have finished it yet.
Also before you dive into Noriko's Dinner Table, Its nothing like the first movie. It's very slow, and very dialogue driven. Also it's nearly 3 hours!!!!
I guess that thing is just my cup o tea though.
