Me? Oh it will just be the first one, the Level 4. I hope to spend this year learning and working up to it. I'm not that far along, but I know about half the Hiragana and a decent smattering of words, phrases and other bits. 11 months is long enough I think for the Level 4.

I'm in about the same position as you and I think I may go for Level 3. It's not THAT much more. Though I figure if I shoot for level 3 and I don't feel quite up to it, I should do fine taking Level 4.

Well I thought I'd just go for the level 4 and see what happens. With a year between sittings it's a bti much to go for the level 3, miss, do the level 4 the following year then the 3 again. I'll do the 4 and see what happens, then maybe the 3 the following year if I'm still any good at it.

Hi Ben,

I just took the Level 4 this past December in San Francisco. Previous to that I had taken a year of Japanese, was off for the summer, and then started studying again for the JLPT from Aug. until the test. So I think 11 months for your study will be plenty.

For me, the Vocabulary, Grammar, and Reading sections of the test weren't so bad, but the Listening Comprehension was a killer! If I were you I would listen to as much Japanese as you can in the next 11 months to get your ear trained for it. During the exam the voices speak at normal speed (which seems very fast) and there is no repeating what was said.
