ARTICLE: Sex And Race In Okinawa

Perhaps you misunderstood what I was saying. I was not condoning bad behavior. What I am talking about is our cultural differences. I think you will see the differences when you get here and maybe you will understand more of what I am talking about.

I am also a member of the military stationed here at Misawa ABS

I won't get off topic the topic of this thread too much....

I did want to say that thanks for your service and congratulations on being in Misawa. How much longer do you have in the area? I might one day benefit from getting a chance to meet you.

As for the cultural differences. I'd like to say I know what you're getting at. Though in this context, I'm just going to have to take your word for it and in fact see it for myself as you had suggested. I'm not certain what cultural differences you feel would make it understandable for the original point you were trying to make. I assure that I am trying to see it from your point of view.

There is something similarly related that concerns me. Which is the exclusion of military or foreign members from entering some establishments. From which I'm well aware that many such establishments exist around the Misawa area. I do feel this is quite a rude gesture that doesn't invite an overall hospitable impression of Japan. I do have my understandings on their defense of this too. Though for the most part I still find it rude.

That is part of the problem. I also called a cab company the other day and the person on the other end spoke only a little english. When I said, "yes, I would like a cab", I heard him say.. "oh, english", "No english, no english" and then he hung up. This is a local cab company that I know deals with american customers all the time. So im not sure what the deal was.

What really upsets me is when the media tries to paint this picture of US forces in japan as being some evil force that needs to be expelled. Anytime a small incident happens the area around the base's erupts into protest. What irks me the most is the unfair and unbalanced judgement on US military members. What also upsets me is not enough media coverage about the good things military members are doing.

Oh wow I am afraid this thread is making tensions between people (they dont even have to be japanese or american!). ALl people should keep one thing in mind: WHAT HAPPENS IN OKINAWA BETWEEN AN AMERICAN AND A JAPANESE WOMAN DOES NOT REPRESENT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NOR THE JAPANESE PEOPLE. IF AN AMERICAN IS A JERK, THAT DOESNT MEAN THE AMERICANS ARE JERKS. IF A JAPANESE IS A JERK, IT DOESNT MEAN THE JAPANESE ARE JERKS.

One last thing: Kobe did not rape her!
