Are Japanese girls skinny?

i cant stand girls that are gaunt I know this girl who is so skinny with bad posture. She sticks her belly out and leans back. ill.

Metabolism !!!

My friend Ryoko was here going to school four 4 years and ate like a horse, all the wrong food, and stayed skinny as a rail. My wife and I would take her out to eat once a month and we were always amazed how that girl could eat !! Never made her gain a pound??

Every Japanese person I know eats like crazy. Seriously, they eat way more than my American friends, but they never gain any weight. It's all in the genes...

There are many Japanese tourists in Australia or other countries,
and twentish and thirtish Japanese tourists look like teenagers.

If I say this to other Japanese people, they say " Maybe that is right.
But hey you live in Japan. Here is Japan and is not the States.
It can't be helped it."

That's why I would like to ask your opinion.

Suffice to say that I agree with most of the sensible people who have already responded. My answer to *this specific question* then, is:

"It is UNHEALTHY to be as thin as you would like me to be. If it's all the same to you, I prefer to be HEALTHY and FEEL GOOD than please your (stupid) eyes."

I understand that the whole individuality thing is not a terribly strong argument in Japan, but it seems to me that being healthy is.

Well, I guess you just need to find someone who likes big butts. And cannot lie.

You're right. I eat at least about 4,000 calories a day, which is about the right amount to maintain my weight at a muscular 210 at 5'10".

They sure do eat alot!! I always thought I was an average eater but they all think I eat too little

I think Japanese girls don't have much in the way of hips, so that makes them look thin and almost boyish/childlike. Talking to a few other gaijin girls here it's always the pants that we can't fit. I'm 160cm and 49kg so I was surprised to find I'm a L in pants here. Not that it matters,I wear whatever is comfortable. Actually I've lost 7kg since coming to Japan and I was the smallest size in NZ before coming here so I don't know what I'll wear when I go back :p

I thought American people eat much more than Japanese, because a portion for one person served in a restaurant in America is 1.5 to 2 times larger than in Japan. When me and my friend went to America for vacation, we always couldn't eat them all.

And at least 3-4 times that minus the noodles, but from what people are saying here even Japanese nationals in the US have a hard time gaining weight. I just know for myself that I probably lose 6-7 pounds for the first three or four weeks of any visit, although that's with much more walking than less snacking than your average citzen. 😄

I guess portion sizes are bigger in other countries, but when I said they eat heaps I mean there is always a never ending supply of dishes - even if small in size - and we are to try them all. A bowl of rice normally fills me up! Then imagine a table with at least 10 other dishes.....

I went to a Hotel for lunch with friends and we had an awabi set menu (Awabi is Paua in NZ (Maori) not sure in other countries english) and there would've been 15-20 dishes for each person!!!! My friends (Japanese) finished them all, but I couldn't......

The problem with western diets in general are the type of carbohydrates we eat -- potatoes fried, or mashed with tons of butter and milk, or baked with fat slabs of butter and sour cream. Potatoes are just lame by themselves, but rice is good without all the other stuff.

On top of that, in America we substitute vats of the stuff instead of eating a larger variety of foods as is done in more advanced cultures. Look at a typical Burger King monstrosity -- double whopper, supersized potato fries and a gallong of a carbo-sugar explosion soft drink. That's like 2 and a half food types.

This combination of fatty preparation + lack of variety is, IMHO, a recipe for obesity. Italians, Greeks, Japanese, Malaysians etc. by custom and culture emphasize eating variety which has a better overall effect.

i think japanese girls in general are skinny and short. I'm speaking in general here. I think there are different shaped and sized women. But I dont really know because I'm not a woman.
I hope this helped answer your question somewhat....

Oh well, maybe most Japanese girls are rather small & petite, but you have a lot of variation there as well. Have been to a wedding party on Friday with an opera performance of 2 Japanese music students: quite voluminous (errhmm), I have to say.

What instruments did they play? When I was in Orchestra, I noticed a definite pattern that the girls that played the violins were generally the slender hotties, and all the girls that played winds or "band" instruments (i.e. trombone, clarinet, trumpet, etc) were very often chubby.
