ancient is 500AD and earlier but pick your poison from this site.

you can use taxonomy to check if a living thing is native to japan.

My guess is that unless it's a naturally vegan dish, there is not much in the way of Japanese vegan food from Japan. Probably most modern Japanese vegan food is created outside of Japan. But I don't really know.
