America better than Japan?

Its interesting that you and others (North Americans I presume) don't address any of the specific issues related to in the links I have given. You choose to just white-wash it all as "negativity" while pointing fingers at Japan and other nations. Japan is not perfect, to be sure, but we have a more sturdy country and will pull out of our fiscal mess in a hell-of-a-shorter time than America.

Then again, that is the problem with America, too many people don't see the problems as they exist. But, as the link above I posted shows, now more and more people here are fully aware that this country is going down! And it is a shame, because there are many really good people that are suffering or that will suffer.

But never mind all the statistics and other "nonsense" that this old Japanese posts. Keep repeating the mantra "yes we can, yes we can, yes we can, booyah!" And it will all be OK.

This post is ironic given the numerous attempts to actually engage you in debate. Chiriodashi and myself have tried, and your response is basically just to ignore anything we say and just keep repeating your mantra. Look at your posting history. Its basically the same post over and over and over again, all you need to change is your link and its title. Other people in this thread can engage in debate; Pachipro and I probably don't agree on much but I think he's pretty reasonable. You're not.

Face it, you're a troll and people are treating you as such. You're no better in your posting tactics than the Japanese ultranationalists or the Anti-Israel crowd on this board. The only difference is that you're on a reasonable subject.

Get a new schtick... this one is getting tired.

I have to say "better" is a completely relative term...to each is own. America being the "Home of the free" isn't crap, but it's dependent on the individual. If you have enough hustle in the US you can do some amazing thing, even change your station in life; you can do the same in Japan.

Is either country perfect? No. What country is? Both America and Japan have some kind of issue, and there will always be the feral pack of "doom-and-gloomers," seething in the shadows, ready to pounce on these issues. "Japan's crumbling because the work force is aging" or "America's job market is on the fritz." Honestly, I don't concern myself with all the glum statistics...because at the end of the day I have to live my own life. The stats have no bearing on which country I think is better or worse. I just try to make the most out of my situation.

I like America because it's where I was raised, where I was educated (primarily), and it will always be home for me. But...Japan is great, too: it's safe, it has a deep, rich historical background, and I've made some great friends here. For me, I have to say there is no better, they're equally good in their own ways. I like Japan and I like America.

Of course you are absolutely right. What is right is what is best for the individual. I agree. If you are happy then living anywhere can be great. But the purpose of this thread is to see the differences in quality of life with regards to economic future and standards of living.

Sorry for the late reply. I have been very busy getting ready to leave the US for good. I will be outta here in the firest week of February 2011.

Kudos!! One of the most intelligent things I've read on this forum in a long time. And in contrast, there are those who'd be miserable anywhere and make those around them miserable too because of their poor attitude.

America is the capital of hypocrisy. We have federal, state, and city governments who can't pay their bills, and yet advocate the repossessing of it's citizens property who cannot pay theirs.

Oops, sorry about that, hsakakibara1. Hmm, with regards to the economy and standard of living. I'm gonna go with Japan on the first one, based on my experience...it just seems easier for me to find work here (I don't know if it's true for everyone, though). In general I'm going to say the U.S. (assuming it's the main cross-section of Americans) because I know very few countries that can use space as freely as the U.S. (apartment size is so different), the access to some really great medical and dental facilities, etc.

You're leaving for good? If you don't mind my asking, how long have you been here in Japan? Is there any major reason you decided to leave? Work? Homesickness? Food?

I can't belief I'm done with reading everything including most of the articles.

Look its save to say you don't like the U.S. and its government. I think your being a bit to harsh on the general public.
I'll agree that some people might still be hopelessly tiring to live the AMERICAN DREAM.
I even get you run while you still can attitude backed up by a bit of history.

But I do think your overlooking a lot of things that where different a 100 years ago.
Even if you do run. Where are you going, backed by what? There is really no point in running if you ask me. Not in a economic sense any way. Sins economies has been globalised the way it is now, its not looking much stable anywhere else.
When Lehman brothers went down the after shock was global. Yes some people will be hit harder then others but that's just live in general.
Here in Holland we had the DSB bank collapse. This because everyone transferred there cash out after a new broadcast advising so. The people who where not as fast and a lot of businesses depending on this bank are facing a lot of problems. People can't pay there bills because the are unable to abstract there money sins October 2009. is an ongoing story.
Here in Holland some people blame the U.S for its greed and claim that's while all has gone to hell.
But I don't believe it. Even here people are living for more then the worth just because the they don't want to live in the smaller house the can afford. why live small if the bank will ok you for more. Even in you dame well know you cant afford it.
Kids around 18/19 can get in a €6.000,-- debt for mobile phone bills. You cant tell me with a strait face you can get in dept that fast in just one year a 100 years ago for stupid useless things like that.
It's a growing problem here. Young adults get into dept a soon as they are legal to do so. People now a days don't know how to save. Not in the U.S. not in Europe not anywhere. Where to accustomed to get loans. Even for things like remodelling the house. And why should we? it just from a basic point; the bank said I can loan for this much so its ok. Your loving parents will say if the bank said its ok it must be ok.
Because 30 years back the bank would not give you a loan unless they where sure you would be able to pay it back. Here students aren't even aware there student loans are fundamentally loans and MUST be paid back if you do not meat requirement that makes it a gift. They all think its free money. And before you know it you're a school drop out with a €30.000,-- to €60.000,-- debt.
It really dos not matter where you are now. If the one falls we al fall. Simply because we all decided to intertwine with one an other. Some of might be better off, but that's about it.
Good luck in Japan. I hope you can be more economically stabile and hope at least happier there.
I'm done typing and its 4.01 am. Time to sleep before I have to go to work in about 4 hours… but first laundry sins it's the economical better time to put things in the dryer..*electricity is cheaper here between 10 pm and 7 am. I don't remember how much (10%?) but its worth doing if your up at ghost hours anyway. goodnight

I am sorry standard of living? can you honestly argue that the average Japanese has a higher standard of living than the average American? Small living spaces, many of which are built from what I can tell are cheap overpriced materials, lack of insulation and central heating... way more expensive energy/gasoline and food costs??? do you see where I am going with this..? Don't get me wrong, Japan has its perks and it has kept me here for 6 1/2 enjoyable years, but a higher standard of living than America is not one of them.
