The Japanese people all love baseball. There is a saying here that all the old folks have (I窶冦 not making this up): "A true Japanese loves the Sun, Scrambled Eggs, and the Yomiuri Giants!"

I was wondering about the "scrambled eggs" thing, Nameless-san, and speculating -- maybe the author thought it would be too much grief to explain to a non-Japanese readership, who may be quite unfamiliar with Japanese food, what constitutes tamago-yaki.

But there are at least two things wrong with it.

1. Most people in Kansai HATE the Giants. Can you say Hanshin Tigers?

2. Everyone sings the Hanshin team song all the time. "Rokko Oroshii..."


Oh yeah, and the guy who wrote that sounds like he has his head up his ***.

So there are absolutely no beneficial points to having your favorite pro team win a game.

Actually, I think it was McDonalds or some other fast food joint, but whenever the Hanshin Tigers won a game, they (the ones located in Kobe anyway) would either have discounts or they would give you a free burger... can't remember what it was exactly though.

I've come to the conclusion that the number of people who write in English about Japan whose understanding of the country and its language is thorough is so tiny that almost anything written in English about Japan has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Never mind the kind of jokey Japanology represented by the article referred to in this thread, I think there are more than a few people presenting themselves as serious experts on the society, politics, and economy of Japan who can't read a Japanese newspaper.

Before anyone asks, no I don't pretend to be an expert on Japan myself. I'm very much a beginner.
