What's the difference between this two sentences?

太郎君は試合に負けて、とっても残念がっていました。

太郎君は試合に負けて、とっても残念がっています。

Is the 1st one has a nuance he has lost the game and he feel regret but now that feeling is ended, while the 2nd one has a nuance he still feel regret until now?
 
It's simply past vs present; "He regretted at that time" vs "He regrets now".

年齢 means age. 年配の人 is probably what you were thinking.

Also に here means に対して. 対象です。主語ではありません。助詞に要注意。
