頼りがいが・る：欧米言語で翻訳したらどういう意味？

もう何ヶ月前から、「頼りがい」の意味を迷ってる。英語の翻訳を辞書で調べたら「reliable」か「trustworthy」書いている。だが、その意味誰かを信頼できると言う意味です。例えば、何かを頼んだらその人必ずやるってこと、とか、問題が急に起こったらその人自分でイニシアチブを取って問題を解いってことです。

日本人と話して、日本語全然違う意味があるみたい。「頼りがいが・る」という人は、魅力が・って、人脈が良くて、経験と能力で自身があり、お金十分お金があり、他人を楽しませる人です。

僕は混乱してる。その全部の意味を含まれている言葉は英語かフランス語かイタリア語でないと思います。:?

日本の女性は良・年上の男を捜して、頼りがいがる人を見つけたいと言われました。
例えば２０代の女性は４０か５０代の男と付き合いたい、普通は同じ年齢の男性は頼りがいがないからと思っています。それは本当に文化の違いと思います。私にはヨーロッパ人にとって、２０才年上を付き合ってか結婚する女性は変わってるか恋愛を気にしない人で、お金だけ求める人です。欧米にはその風の人間は卑しいと思われる。しかし、日本には見合いで結婚する人とか子どもを作るためかお金のためを結婚する人はまだ多いみたい。これは他の文化の違いです。

まだ「頼りがい」についてよ・わからないと思うので、日本の方は説明できたら嬉しいです。

There's nothing to be gained from depending on a 20 year old they don't have the money. 頼りがいがある doesn't (I suspect) imply someone is reliable so much as that they are able to come up with 'the goods'.

「頼りがいがある人」とは要するに、相手（恋人や奥さん）を不安にさせない人だと思います（従って、"魅力的"というのはやや違う気がします）。その判断は、1）社会.生活、2）個人生活、3）緊急事態への対応、の3点から行われると思います。

1）社会生活
社会生活では要するにお金、a）保有財産額、b）高収入の職業、c）職業の安定性(失業や減収の危険の小ささ)が評価されます（但し、財産のうち親から譲り受けた部分については評価対象外かもしれません）。また、お金以外に、社会人としての礼儀･マナーがしっかりしていることも評価されるでしょう。

更に、姓治(politics)や経済、歴史、宗教、先端技術等、社会の様々な事柄について知識と教養を持ち、「真実に近い人間」、「騙されない人間」とみられることも大きな評価対象です。

2）個人生活
個人生活では精神的な安定性が評価されます。女性が不安に陥ったときに効果的なアドバイスができる人や、そもそも女性を不安に陥らせないような男性です。また、ちょっとした大工仕事や家電製品の扱い、車の運転など、従来から「男の領域」とされている事柄をきちんと処理できることも評価の対象です。

更に近年では、女性なしでも1人で生活できるイメージ、つまり料理･洗濯・掃除を独力でできる事も評価されると思います。

また、男性としての能力、特に筋肉の能力で女性には難しい作業をこなすことも評価されます。筋肉質で高身長の立派な体格ならば、そのこと自体も「頼りがいが・りそう」と言われたりもします。

3）緊急事態への対応
地震や火災、交通事故などの際に適切な対応ができた場合、高い評価になるでしょう。また、（緊急事態とまでは言えませんが）自然の中での遊び、例えばキャンプや魚釣りなどが得意な場合も評価されるかも知れません。

以上が「頼れる人」、「頼りがいが・る男性」の一般的イメージだと思います。但し、これらの全てを充たすような男性はまずいないでしょう。従って女性の方も、些細な事（例えば重い荷物を持ってもらったとか、徹夜を続けて後輩の仕事上のミスをカバーしたとか、迷子になって泣いている子供を上手に世話したとか、花見の幹事として雑用をテキパキこなしたとか）だけで「この人は頼れる男性だ」と評価し、好意を抱いたりします。そこから交際を始めて幸せになる女性もいれば、そうならない女性ももちろんいますね。

このように（男性にとっては有難い）勘違いのシステムが機能していますし、「頼れるか否か」だけが女性が男性を評価するポイントでもないので、40-50代の男性を好む20代の女性というのは・数派(minority)だと思います。但し恋人や結婚相手としてではなしに、頼れる相談相手としての中高年男性が欲しいと思う女性は多いかも知れません。また、その・数派の年上好みの女性達にしても、お金が好きだというより、father complex的な理由から精神的に大きそうな男性、包容力の高そうな男性を求める場合か多いような気がします。

欧米言語への翻訳については、私の能力では到底協力できません。ただ、私の現状の能力で翻訳するなら、 "a comfortable person with XXX"とでもして、XXXに頼れる理由を書きます。もっとも、"reliable"や"trustworthy"がぴったりな場合も沢山存在すると思いますが。

心理的にとても面白いテーマですね。欧米では「father complex」を受けた女性もいるはずだけど、「頼りがい」のコンセプトないと思います。「somebody you are comfortable with」というのは全然お金とか仕事とか関係ないと思う。僕の意見はヨーロッパ人には恋人か結婚相手を求めるとき、「感情、考え方と魅力」だけが大事です。多分、日本人の高い「uncertainty avoidance」（「知らないことを確かめなければ不安になる」ってことか）はその考え方の理由です。例えば、「uncertainty avoidance」の高い文化ではルールがたくさんあり、人がずいぶん前から予定と準備して（旅行、結婚式とか）、将来のことをいつも心配している人が多い。中国と韓国も、「uncertainty avoidance」の高い文化です。ヨーロッパでドイツ人とかイタリア人とかも、高い。一番低いのは英語の母国語人（イギリス人、アメリカ人、オーストリア人。。。）とスカンディナビア人です。

Yes, but you may misunderstand it. For example, what is the "beauty" for you? You'll be able to find it in the smile of a young girl, sharp shape of a high-tech car, calmness of the sacred mountain, sweat of struggling athlete, the artworks of Renoir....etc. And you'll also find "tayorigai-ness" in many situations/categories in your life, won't you?

Girls who have grown up under too-strong/heavy influence of their father(or grandfather, elder brother etc) tend to seek tayorigai-ful man eagerly and intensely in my opinion.

Btw, I was a bit surprised to find you wrote "suffer from(a father complex)" in your translation. "Faza-con"(father complex) is not so heavy/serious word for us, and we sometimes say "every female is somewhat in the condition of "father complex". Is the thing different in Europe where S. Freud and C.G.Jung were born?

From Japanese point of a view(or prejudice/generalization), both the Korean and Italian are "happy-go-lucky" nationalities. We tend to treat the Chinese and German as cautious, careful, prudent nationalities.

In English, you can suffer from lots of things, even if it isn't really painful : suffer from acne, insomnia, hair loss, disillusion, inferiority complex, poor vision, etc.

これは面白い文化違いですよね。もちろん感情を変わりやすい人が世界の・まな・にいるけど、僕が日本に２年半を住み、東南アジアを４ヶ月の旅行経験で、日本人と他の東アジア人はもっと簡単に影響される傾向があると印象しました。欧米人はもっと自分の意見、理想か新年に信じがちがあると思う。だから、環境が変わってもそんなに影響されない。

Does my Japanese make sense ? I mean : That's an interesting cultural difference. Of course there are people who are easily influenced all over the world, but after living 2,5 years in Japan and having travelled 4 months in S-E Asia, I am under the impression that Japanese and other East Asians tend to be more easily influenced. Westerners tend to have stronger beliefs in their opinions, ideals or convictions, less influenced by the change in the environment.

I think this is very personal, but if you ask me, I'd say the "sweat of a struggling athlete" as I am not so much into sports.

That would take a long time to explain, but in short "a" is used when you talk for the first time about something or can replace it by "one", "any" or "another".

"The" is used when it's clear what you are talking about (eg. when there is only one of these thing at that place. => "it's on the floor.", "look at the sky", "somewhere in the world...", etc.)

Maybe, but the lack of father's influence is less influential than over-influence for daughters, at least among my acquaintances. The reason imo is that most of them can(or must) find the substitute; mother, elder brother, uncle, neighbor, teacher, senpai....etc.

In my opinion, Western people are also easily-influenced. But they tend to think "now I change my way only because of my own decision", or "this is mere a tactical,temporary withdrawal", or "you say I changed but I'm still the same. The reason is ..... ". Very logical minded(or iiwake gamashii), aren't they?

And Japan is (in)famous for its Otaku/Syokunin natiomality. A considerable number of Japanese go their way contrary to your opinion.

However, after all, I myself think Japanese are more easily-influenced than Western people. So this quote may be more valuable for you.

ちなみに、「頼りがいのある」という単語は、「頼りがいのある男性」だけでなく、
頼りがいのある上司、友達、女性にも使います。
