Translation given: "The election gave the party a role in the government."
How does 選挙の結果 connect grammatically to the rest of the sentence? Is there a particle missing?
2. This is a note on the use of ～わけにはいかない:
それをしてもいいのが、気持ちの上でそれはできないというニュアンスが強い。
I don't understand this at all.
Do the two instances of それ refer to the subject of ～わけにはいかない? Then it would seem to mean "You can do ～, but there is a strong nuance that it is impossible." But this makes no sense.
Also, what does 気持ちの上で mean?
3. 警官による暴行事件はあやうく暴動に火をつけるところでした。
Translation given: "The police brutality incidents nearly set off a riot."
I thought this meant "According to the police, violent incidents nearly set off a riot." Is my translation possible? Or would that have to be によると?
4. 一時にJRの秋葉原駅で待ち合わせでいいですか。
My translation: "How about we meet at Akihabara JR station at one o'clock?"
I'm not very sure what the で is doing in 待ち合わせでいいですか. No doubt I should know this, but it somehow looked odd.
5. Students have been told to practise a conversation where one invites the other to a party, and that they should make up a date for the party (日時は自由). Then:
どのようなパーティーかも、自分で決めなさい。
I understand this is telling the students that they should decide what kind of party it is, but I'm unsure about も. Does it mean they should *also* decide the type of party (in addition to deciding the date), or does it go with どの to mean more like "you decide on *whatever* kind of party (you like)"? I'm thinking now that it's the former?
