1. Someone is recounting a story about how the zodiac animals (rat, bull, tiger, etc.) are listed in the order in which they reached the Buddha.
うしははやくいったけど、足がおそかったから、うしの せなかにのっていったねずみがいちばんについたの。
To me this looks like "The bull went quickly, but was slow-footed, so the rat riding on his back arrived first", which doesn't make any sense. Where am I going wrong?
2. Some characters are deciding where to go next, and what to do. One has suggested that they go to 登別温泉. Then another says:
はい。はい。でも皆さんもうすぐ神社の時の門に入りま すよ。
Then someone else says:
残念ですね。じゃあ、函館八幡宮に帰りましょう。これ はプレゼントの俳句です・・・。
What is going on here? For a start, what does 神社の時の門に入ります mean?
3. 喫茶店に入ったら、二人に青年がテレビでレスリングの 試合を見ていた。
Translation given: "As I entered the café, I found two young men watching a wrestling match on television."
Is 二人に青年 a typo for 二人の青年?
4. それから伊是名は琉球の王様になった尚王が生まれたと ころだから、お城の跡もあるし、お墓もある。
My translation: "Also, Izena is the birthplace of 尚王, who would become king of Ryukyu, so there is a grave and the remains of a castle."
a) Is 尚王 someone's name (like "King 尚")?
b) I'm a bit unsure about the logic of the second から. Assuming the grave belongs to 尚王, why would there be a grave at his birthplace? I mean, obviously it's possible that he could have been buried at the place he was born, but there doesn't seem enough reason to suppose this to justify the word から. If I'm overthinking this then I'll stop worrying, but I feel I am somehow missing the point.
