でも自分でもとても不思議なのだけれどーーどれだけ叱られ続けても仕事はまったく辛くはなく、むしろ怒られるほど僕はわくわくと嬉しくなるのだ。

Hi. Does the でも in red mean "even (if)"? And what is the function of the なの in green? Can we omit it?

It is the 'even' でも, yes, not 'but'. 自分でも = "Even I".

なの is an explanatory の, with the usual change to tone if you omit it.

I think it would be stiff and awkward to leave it out here, but still correct grammar and essentially the same meaning.
