「携帯かくれん防止器」

This is the name of a magical device that detects untrustworthy or suspicious people in the vicinity. What is the かくれん part? I'm thinking something to do with 隠, but I don't quite get it.

It sounds like a play on words with 坊 and 防止.

かくれん坊 （隠れん坊） is hide-and-go-seek.

So its like "portable hide-and-go-seek detector"

Funnily enough that did cross my mind when I looked up かくれん, but I could see no connection between the game "hide-and-(go-)seek" and the detection of untrustworthy people. Do you understand what that connection is?

As you of course know, "hide and seek" is a game to seek hidden people, therefore かくれんぼ防止 means something like "prevention those people from hiding", i.e., "detection of them". You can think that the word かくれんぼ is put more focus on the action "hiding", not the game itself or seeking them, in this case.
