You don't need to use the kanji for これ／この or それ／その - nowadays they're usually written in hiragana only.
Anyway, here are some example sentences that will let you see how these words are different.
これはふわふわなドインクです。
This is a fluffy doink.
このドインクはふわふわです。
This doink is fluffy.
The first sentence, with これ, is explaining what the "this" is. In this case, the "this" is "a fluffy doink".
The second sentence, with この, is describing something about "this (thing)", in this case, "this doink", the "something" being that it is fluffy.
Same with それ／その and あれ／あの, except that it's not describing "this" but "that"/"that (thing)", and "that (over there)"/"that (thing over there)".

相手が何かを説明してくれたとき、それに納得して「なるほど！」ということはよくありますけれど、
それに特に否定的な意味や皮肉は含まれていないと思うんですが…
相手に同感したときも「なるほど」ってよく使いますよね？

「なるほどね」というのは「なるほど」とはかなりニュアンスが違いますし、失礼に聞こえますけど
ふつうの会話で理解や同感をしめすのに「なるほど」という言葉を使うのは
（個人の好みは別として）それほど神経質にならなくてもいいんじゃないかな...と思います。
私の意見を押し付けるわけじゃありませんが。
個人的には「気をつけましょうね」なんていわれる方がよほど「むむっ」って思っちゃうのですが
エリザベスさんはそういうつもりでこの表現を使っているのではないと思うので...
まるで喧嘩を売ってるみたいな投稿になっちゃったかな、

しかし、「でしょうね」じゃんくて、「でしょう」自体を使ったらいいのかな。。。

エリザベスさんは言葉のニュアンスをとても大事にしてるんですよね。
日本語をよくわかっていていつも感心しています。
（他のスレッドですけれど、「おかげ」と「せい」の使い方の違いとか。）
ただ、ふつう「なるほど」には、特に否定的な意味はないので、
日本語初心者のKaian88 さんに使わない方がいいですと言ってしまうと
混乱させてしまうかなと思ったのでちょっと反論を書きました。

それは使わない方がいいですと教えてあげた方がいいかもしれませんが...

自分の中に強い感情の動きがあったときに、言葉のかわりにでてくる音？です。
「気をつけましょうね」って場合によっては大人が子どもにさとすような響きがあるんですよ。
（さとす、というのは「目下の者に、ことの道理を理解できるように言いきかせる」という意味です。）
エリザベスさんがそんなつもりで言った訳ではないことはわかっているので、
もしもエリザベスさんが初心者だったら特になにも言わないんですけれど
日本語をよく理解できるエリザベスさんなので、あえて「むむっ」って書いてみました。
もっとちゃんと説明すべきでしたね。

このフォーラムには日本語を勉強し始めたひとからかなり日本語が上手なひとまで
いろいろなレベルの人がいますよね。
相手によって、間違いをどこまで指摘した方がいいのかなあといつも悩みます。
習い始めたばかりの人に細かいことをいいすぎると気を悪くしたり、やる気をなくしてしまうかなあとか、日本語のニュアンスがよくわかるひとにはもっと詳しく指摘した方がいいのかなあって。
判断するのはなかなか難しいですね。
（文法に関係ないことをたくさん書いちゃいました。すみません。）
People who are participating on this forum vary - some have just started learning Japanese, others are quite fluent.
I always wonder to what extent I should point out mistakes or make corrections. Beginner might be hurt and discouraged if every minor mistakes are corrected whenever he/she posts, while much advanced learners might want to hear more detailed explanations on nuance, slight differences, etc... It's hard to decide.
Sorry for rattling on about the things not related to grammar.

The gist of it is that naru hodo can be taken as sarcastic, but isn't always that way; it depends on how you say it, but naruhodo is more often taken as sarcastic.
I think that's all that really relates to you directly. undrentide translated the other stuff that she wrote at the bottom, and the other stuff was about a phrase that Elizabeth used.

Oh, I haven't read the last part of the last post from undrentide. Now I did.
Although I don't mind to take corrections and tips, I agree with undrentide, sometimes if you correct everything the beginner says, you discourage him/her. I know because I teach Portuguese to some people and to them Portuguese is a monster because of all the conjugations and all the ways you have to say the same thing.
But I'm not complaining, just saying my opinion on the discussion.

What I really wanted to say in the first post, though, but was too tired and lazy to think up yesterday was that I often hear "naruhodo" used in the same way and with the same intonation or intended meaning as "naruhodo ne" (in English : naturally, of course, sure). I'm starting to question whether it could be something unique to me, though, or only in response to something I've said....
