Hi,

I'm trying to read Shin Chan, and I thought posting in the forum would be a great help for learning. Here is the first dialog:

いい経験になるわ
させた事ないから
まだ買物
ひとりで

Can you give a translation? grammatical explanations are very welcome ^^
 
First of all, you read it from the opposite direction.

ひとりでまだ買物させた事ないからいい経験になるわ

で means a way of doing something

事ない I don't know how to translate this

So (から because of this) It will be a good experience

Not sure about わ, I think it's some kind of emphasis particle.
 
したことがない means "never done (something)." 一人で買い物させる here seems to be more "let them go shopping alone)" than "make them...".

Yes, わ is a sort of emphasis particle. It's similar to よ.
 
This わ is used only by female.
 
There is a わ that's used by males, but it's got a falling intonation and it's (at least used to be) mostly used in Kansai. For instance, もうええわ、やってられへん。(if memory serves me correctly)
 
Yeah, the intonation and/or pitch accent is the key. いい経験になるわ can be sarcastically said by male also in standard Japanese, for instance.

I'm assembling an anki deck, I'll post it here if we get to the end of the page. I'm not sure how to add the grammar points (any suggestions?) so kanji and vocabulary for now. Here is the next sentence:

そうだしんのすけに行かせよう

そうだ That's it (だ is the abbreviated form of です, this seems like an idiom)
Not sure about 行かせよう I don't know this verb form.
に is the particle for the one that describes the action of the verb so I'll guess a translation:

That's it, Shinosuke will go.
 
On a second guess, rikaichan says 行かせよう is causative volitional.

Causative means to make someone do something.
Volitional "indicates that someone is setting out to do something".

That's it, let's make Sinosuke go.

Hrm, while I think Manga is an excellent way to get interesting Japanese material to start learning, you might want to brute force rote memorize a few things first.

1) Hiragana
2) Basic grammar rules, verb conjugations, particles, etc.
3) Katakana
4) start up (but not necessarily finish) Heisig's "remembering the kanji", of course converting the mnemonics to your native tongue.
5) Basic phrases and greetings: get introduced to them all
6) Understand the very basics of keigo: politeness, honorifics, humble forms

After the above, which is really only a few weeks investment, read 100 Manga and enjoy them. If something seems to take too long to understand, either refer to a translation or just skip it.
 
I've studied two years of japanese in a school but that was some time ago. Now I don't have enough time so I'm taking things easy, besides I'm tired of rote memorization. Just for fun I'll go with Shin Chan and memorize things on the way. It will be much easier with the forum though, If I manage to keep some of you interested
 
"Yeah, let's let Sinnosuke go" is how it feels to me (which is close to your second, revised version). I still feel like it's permission more than coercion. That may have to do with the に instead of を (i.e., しんのすけを行かせよう) as well as it just feeling like this is more about letting him go on his own than making him do it.

そうだ can be translated a few different ways, such as "that's right" or "yeah". だ isn't an abbreviation of です, though, any more than 行く is an abbreviation of 行きます. They're two different forms, one familiar and informal, and one polite and formal.

Now the first and second frames will throw some light to the shopping mistery:
あっひき肉と大根買うのわすれた
Ahh, I forgot to buy minced meat and daikon radish.
I'm pretty sure thats the translation but I don't fully understand the verb + の + past form. I think の makes the verb a noun but that doesn't seem to fit.
 
Yeah, it does. It's similar to こと that way. There's an を missing in there, too, between の and わすれた. This kind of omission happens quite a bit in informal speech.

Where is the verb here? and why one half of the word しょうゆ is written with kana and the other half with kanji?

I'm lost with this one besides まいったなア that means I'm doomed or I'm beaten and でも that means but, some katakana is mixed in too, that must be to add emotion.
 
That should be しょう (small よ). It's because the kanji 醬 (or 醤) isn't a Joyo kanji. The "verb" is ない (although to be technical it's a suppletive form for ある used for negation, and is an adjective. It's better to call it a predicate here). It means "there isn't (or I don't have/didn't get) soy sauce."

You've pretty much got the meaning for まいったなア. It's similar to 困ったな here. Sometimes katakana gets thrown in for effect. It's just a lengthening of the vowel. You're on the right track thinking that it's there for emotion.

I believe 今手エはなせないし is saying "it can't end like this", but I'm not sure about that. At any rate, the でも does mean "but".

Why did you introduce then sentences in reverse order? Were you reading it backwards and then realized it later or something?
 
I used acrobat pro ocr to scan the page, and it only missed a few kanji that I searched in Denshi Jisho with the radical search

It's a great method but it was the first time I have used it. The manga is read vertically, I made a google doc and forgot to reorganize the text.

This is strange, Shin Chan is drawing so I guess it means:
Now I'm drawing a picture (おえ using honorific and kana?) so (から) I can't (ダメ)
かきしてる
Some thing about this one. He seems to use the verb "to write" to say that he is drawing. It's written in kana, and I don't recognize the conjugation.
 
ちょっと待って: Just a moment.
ちょっと来て: Come here for a minute.

おえかきする is a -suru verb, meaning "to draw/write graffiti". (The subject is usually kids.)
 
I see, I must have paid more attention to the kanji 待 vs 来

Do you know why the suru verb is written with kana?

That's basically the author's preference. Another reason would be that that's a Shinchan's words.

As you can see in the Japanese version of the wiki page you referred to, it's an explanation for お絵かきBBS rather than お絵かき itself. お絵かき is originally a nursery word for drawing/painting. That's why it's usually used for kids.
Incidentally, 絵描き[えかき] refers to a painter by occupation.
