Hi,


1. 男の子たちは、フックの手下どもをやっつけはしました が、この男だけは、みんなしてかかっても、なかなか負 かすことができないようです。

What is みんなしてかかっても? I can recognise みんな・して・かかって・も of course, but I do not understand what that combination of words means or how the grammar works.


2. 時折、フェイントをかけておいては、敵の防禦をかいく ぐって、・・・

What is the purpose of は here?

1. みんなして is like みんなが一緒に・・・. Then you've got the かかっても part. Does that help?

2. It's showing repetition. From time to time, they would feint and break through the enemy's defenses, (and do this again, and again).

Thanks Glenn,

1. Is みんなして = みんな + してas in the -て form of する? I more or less get what you're saying, but I am hazy about the exact meaning of かかって (this verb has too many meanings...)

As for かかる, I believe this is the one you want:

攻撃的に挑む。攻めていく。「束になって―・る」「攻略に―・る」
かかる【掛（か）る／懸（か）る／係る】の意味 - 国語辞書 - goo辞書
