まるで、さっきまでシリウスの髪の毛があった場所をはっきり知っているかのように。そして、絶対に捕まえてみせるとでもいうように。

Does みせる mean that the person appeared to be carrying out the action 捕まえて?

～てみせる shows the subject's strong intention/determination to do in that case.
