Translation given: "If I were twenty, I could vote."

Does のに express the speaker's regret that he/she is not yet 20, and therefore can't vote?


2. 暖冬というのは文字通り暖かい冬という意味だが、どの 程度暖かい時に暖冬と言われるかを知っている人はそう 多くない。

My translation: "「暖冬」 literally means 'warm winter', but not that many people know how warm it needs to be to be called 「暖冬」."

a) What is the grammatical role of に in どの程度暖かい時に? Does it simply mark the element B in "A is called B"?

b) Does そう translate to "that", as in my translation "not that many"?


3. The author has been explaining that 「暖冬」 means an unusually large number of warm winter days. Then:

その異常さはどの程度の温度なのだろう。

I understand this roughly means "What temperature constitutes 'unusual'?" However, I do not really understand the nuance of だろう. Is it like "I wonder what temperature is 'unusual'?" Is the whole sentence actually even a question?


4. 気象庁によると、その冬の「平均気温」が平年（＝過去 ３０年間の平均）と比べて０．５度以上高い場合に暖冬 というそうだ。

My translation: "According to the JMA, 「暖冬」 is a winter whose average temperature is at least 0.5 degrees higher than a normal year (defined as the average of the past thirty years)."

Is the function of に in 場合に the same as in question 2a?

Thanks Toritoribe. In #2, for some reason I was thinking 暖かい時 was the actual period of time that was being described as 暖冬.

Now I'm thinking that 時に is just indicating "time at which 暖冬 can be said". Is that right now?

The meaning is the same, but your interpretation is for 暖冬と言われる時にどの程度暖かいか. 時 would be more close to 'case/situation' here.
