皆さんこんにちは、
次ぎのこの文法の意味が教えてください

Ichiro a soldier has just been rescued. This is the next line.

I'm wandering what だいぶたって does to 日本が

それからだいぶたって日本が戦争に負け、一郎はようや く故郷に帰ってきた。

I get the fact that "after that japan lost the battle and Ichiro finally got to return home."

But don't understand the grammar/meaning of だいぶたって.

よろしくお願いします

That it is 窶堙 before 窶愿コ窶怒窶堋ェ and not 窶堋ス should be a hint that 窶堋セ窶堋「窶堙披?堋ス窶堙≫?堙 does nothing to 窶愿コ窶怒窶堋ェ.

Plain (dictionary form) endings or past tense endings modify what comes after, but 窶堙 doesn't. There may be exceptions, of course.

("wondering"....not "wandering")

("wondering"....not "wandering")

Yes I need to watch auto fill. Or maybe I am "wandering" aimlessly in my pursuit of a better understanding, ha ha.

So it is...

After that, a considerable time passed and japan lost the battle......

Thanks mikesan and toritoribesan.

Seeing the kanji 大分経って and your advice of Plain (dictionary form) endings or past tense endings modify what comes after, but て doesn't really helps.

You already learned that the -te form is used to continue clauses, no?
窶堋サ窶堙ェ窶堋ゥ窶堙ァ窶堋セ窶堋「窶堙披?堋ス窶堙≫?堋ス and then 窶愿コ窶怒窶堋ェツ静ュ窶侏??堙俄?「窶ー窶堋ッ窶堋ス and then ヒ?ェヒ弸窶堙坂?堙ヲ窶堋、窶堙「窶堋ュナ津娯?ケツス窶堙俄?ケA窶堙≫?堙??堋ォ窶堋ス

窶堋サ窶堙ェ窶堋ゥ窶堙ァ is modifying 窶堋セ窶堋「窶堙披?堋ス窶堙≫?堙? not just a conjunction, by the way.

So more like..
There followed a considerable period and then japan lost the battle
Subsequently Ichiro finally returned home.

I'm pretty sure you must know what それ refers to from the context. (I mean, "after that" is more appropriate for それから. The point is that それから is modifying だいぶたって, as I wrote.)
