I see this word quite often, and can't find it in the dictionary or wakan. Here's a sentence that uses it.

いったことがありません！
ittako to ga arimasen!

From this I figure it's a negative expression of something, but what is ittako?

And following this I have another sentence:

いってみたぁ～～～ぃ
ittemi taxa

(Did I get that right?)
What does this mean, and is it informal when used like this?

Your parsing should be "itta koto"....see if that makes it more checkable.

Thanks, now I have itta=said (or should it be 'iu'?), but koto still eludes me.

I think this sentence is saying something about me not mentioning something.

It really all depends, but "koto ga aru" is a set phrase which translates as having done something -- stuck on the back of itta, here most probably ﾂ行窶堙≫?堋ｽ, meaning 'have never gone.' ﾂ ﾂ

Are you working from a textbook at approximately your level, by the way ?
Avoiding the aggravation of seeing something this basic so much without having a ready source of reference....

私は日本に行ったことがある。 I have been to Japan.
