The symbol/letter in the middle is 寿 (kotobuki). It means felicitations, congratulations, long life, etc... Essentially a word that means good tidings.

It's written by a Chinese student Kang (康建中) to cerebrate his teacher's health and peace. There are Chinese signatures at the bottom (students' ones?).
