Nice one! Enjoy Kyoto minus the tourists. How envious I am. Please share a lot of photos with us.
Evening walk around Fushimi Inari Taisha:
Beautiful out today (w/dog x2). Another view of some bamboo. In the foreground the bamboo is on the near side of a stream, then across that there's some housing before the hill gets too steep and the bamboo starts there. We live about ten minutes' walk downstream to the right from where this is taken. On the right near the top there are some actual trees visible, not leafed out yet. Otherwise, bambooo...!

I went for what I call our "bamboo walk" today. I hadn't done this loop for quite a while, and wanted to get back to it. It was a little wet at first, but then cleared off really nicely. These are just snapshots (phone). Some shots show wild, unmaintained areas, and some show where it is being cultivated/harvested.
None of the shots really show what it's like to walk thru it, some kind of growth on one side, something else on the other, the transitions, the immersion effect.
The one shot of the electrical/solar box is for electric fencing, and if you look close, I think it says the max shock is 9500v. There's a fair amount of that around, and in the shot after that you can see a small warning sign. Usually two wires running close to the ground, easy enough to step over, but not for an animal. I think pigs are the main concern (they're supposed to eat anything), and note the trap at the end. ((And I wonder how many "山科" there are in Japan?!?))

It's too wet and sometimes muddy for a little longhaired dog.
While if you study it there are hundreds of varieties of bamboo, in general there are two dominant types. One is モウソウチク (which is the kind you eat) and the other is マダケ (used for making/building things). A couple kilometers away from this is an area known for its takenoko, with restaurants and roadside stands that are really only open for a week or two in the spring. (that was on my commute to work when I went "the back way")

My two cents on inaccurate translations and wild boars.
The general sweep of things. Same place the dog and I often go, not many people around on a Monday. Saw people's snacks/lunches in two separate places get zoomed/attacked by big birds (トビ, really common here), scaring the heck out of them.
