Japanese paint on cloth calligraphy translation.

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I've been on another Asian Forum, but had no luck as to the translation of the calligraphy within this painting on cloth. Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Steve.

That's an excerpt from Akutagawa; Episode 6 of The Tales of Ise.

女のえうましかりけるをとしをへてよはひわたりけるをからうしてぬすみ出ていとくらきに来けり
Onna no eumashikarikeru wo toshi wo hete yobai watarikeru wo karoujite nusumiide ito kuraki ni kikeri.
A man had been making marriage proposals repeatedly for many years to a noble woman whom he could hardly get. He finally stole her, and ran away (to the Akuta river) in the deep dark.

I can't judge yours, but the original was painted around the middle of the 17th century, so at least it's later than that.

Here's the original 伊勢物語図色紙 芥川 伝俵屋宗達 Ise Monogatari-zu Shikishi Akutagawa attributed to Tawaraya Sōtatsu, owned by 大和文華館 the Museum of Japanese Art Yamato Bunkakan. As you can see, the painting at the top of your picture is from another artwork.

Hi again,
I hope you can help again Toritoribe.
I took the piece out of the frame and notice that all of the sections appear to be connected (view images). The threading appears to be connected. There is a green backing material attached to the top section where an adhesive material was applied to stick to the frame board material. Any idea why the top section was incorporated on this piece? Thanks.
