Hi Guys I'm reading a story called テングの隠れみの a character they have introduced is 彦一
They say when he was young he was a very bright boy but when I grew up he began to like sake.

The following confuses me some what.
especially 酒が飲みてえな (Is this てえな want to drink) and それをかぶると姿が消えるという (No idea is this a figure of speech)

Can you please check my comprehension of this passage.

(At any rate hikoichi's dream was to drink sake every day to his hearts content)
(I wonder if there is anything more wise then wanting to drink sake)
(While he was considering this, suddenly.......(NO idea what this means) . he recalled something about tengu no kakuremino)

Is the commer after が消えるという、supposed to be there?

I appreciate your help.

This may make it more clear.

知恵 here is "knowledge", not "wisdom".

"Know where I can get one?"

This may make it more clear.

知恵 here is "knowledge", not "wisdom".

"Know where I can get one?"

"それをかぶると姿が消えるという" it is said when you wear it, you disappear.

While he was considering this, suddenly he recalled something about tengu's kakuremino which it is said makes you dissappear when you wear it.

Is this like an invisability cloak?

何か、うまい知恵はないだろうか The 何か in this does this mean "nothing" with the はないだろうか attached or does it still mean something or somekind of etc.
for example
I wonder if I will get some kind of great insite

especially 酒が飲みてえな (Is this てえな want to drink)
Yes, てえ/てぇ/てー is a tokyo/edo dialect of たい.

Is the commer after が消えるという、supposed to be there?
There is no strict rule about where a comma is put. The writer would think the modifying clause is a bit long.

"それをかぶると姿が消えるという" it is said when you wear it, you disappear.

While he was considering this, suddenly he recalled something about tengu's kakuremino which it is said makes you dissappear when you wear it.

Is this like an invisability cloak?
Yes, that's right.

何か、うまい知恵はないだろうか The 何か in this does this mean "nothing" with the はないだろうか attached or does it still mean something or somekind of etc.
The latter.

Thanks Mikesan and Toritoribesan.
It is so much clearer now that you've helped explain it. One minute I think I am going along alright, the next minute I feel like I have picked up the wrong language book becuase I can't seem to understand a thing. It's amazing how studing japanese can be painful, rewarding and enjoyable all at the same time.

I think part of the problem was the それ location, perhaps. In English we're used to our pronouns having antecedents...the referent must come before the replacing pronoun. That, and modifying clauses come after nouns.

Yes I see your point. We normally describe/ mention the noun then call it "that" afterwards once it has been establish "That" is what your talking about.
