Hello everyone. I hope my question would be taken seriously.

I want to apply for a PhD and I found this question to be kind of confusing. Any clarification would be really helpful.

3 Study program in Japan: (Describe in detail and with specifics — particularly concerning the ultimate goal(s) of your research in Japan)

what do they want exactly ? I've already written my research plan in

2 Your research topic in Japan: Describe articulately the research you wish to carry out in Japan.

There are links explaining about this form and examples of research plans in the main MEXT graduate thread:
MEXT Scholarship (Graduate Students) 2017 | Japan Forum

I suggest you ask further questions there instead of starting new threads, because then more people will see your question.

I agree the instructions are somewhat confusing.
渡日後の研究テーマ:日本においてどういった研究がしたいかを明確に記入すること
This is more like "The topic of your research after arriving in Japan: describe what sort of research you want to carry out in Japan". So here you should describe what the field is and why it is important without going into too much detail about what you personally will be doing. You have a chance here to sell your field/topic to the judges - why should they care about funding your research?

Then under question 3 you should write about the aims of your own project and describe in detail what steps you will take to achieve those aims.

I think if you look at the examples posted in the above thread, this will become clearer.

thanks man. Another question. I'm kinda split between two domains of research and I've chosen two universities in one domain and another university in the other.
Is is okey to write about both of the topics I have in mind ? I mean I don't want them to think that I don't have directions but at the same time I'm okey doing research in any of them.

I can't say for certain. I think if they are projects in two separate fields then it would be better to pick one and write about it. If they are different projects but on more or less the same topic I don't think it's a problem to mention both.

In my plan I describe two projects because my first and second choice professors are working on slightly different things. However both groups are working on the same large-scale experiment so it's practically the same topic and similar kinds of aims. Personally I wouldn't attempt to write a plan including one project on astrophysics and another on biophysics (for example).

Perhaps someone in the other thread can give you a more definitive answer. This is just my opinion.

I ended up talking about both of them in section 2 however I restricted myself to only one of them on section 3.

It is sort of a difficult question and I agree with mad scientist about choosing one specific research path.

When I wrote my first research proposal, I had two professors in mind so I had to write one proposal that would show either professor my interest in their work. I guess it depends on your school, but for my school we had to reach out to our prospective supervisor before we officially apply for the program. After my first choice, reviewed my tentative application form, I tailored my research plan to work that was more related to him.
