North Korea just shot a long-range missile over Japan

I got you, Mike Cash. I would also like to get some sort of feedback from the PM's office on that choice of wording.

I would also like to know if President Obama questioned that choice of vocabulary by PM Abe.

Dotanbatan, you stated in your post that I don't know what it means.

Sorry, but you are very wrong. It means what it means! The use of the word "any" doesn't leave any room for maneuver.

Now you may want to make the case that the way is open as to how we, or anyone else, may wish to interpret the meaning of what he stated, but that is a different thing. We first must be clear about the actual words used and what those words mean. Any means any. Ain't no other way to state it and any good ole' country boy/gal will state it just like that. Now you want to start getting all fancy and stuff, no sweat. But first and foremost let's be clear that a brown cow is a brown cow and it ain't no other colour but brown. Now, you wanna go start talking about shades of brown, that's different. But that means we brought the city folks into the discussion and my brown cow don't know how to talk with city folks. Sorry.

Unfortunately, MP Abe is running a nation that has a past that makes one's choice of vocabulary very important when one is speaking as a leader of that particular nation and aiming harsh words at another nation's leaders or people.

Also, and this is a big also, I'm getting about fed up with all sorts of leaders in politics and business saying things and then turning around and telling us they didn't really mean what they said.

But, you see, if the citizens of this planet don't start holding these leader folks to their words and make them start being straight with us these leader types will just keep on playing games with us. Us citizen folks need to be more assertive in how we deal with our "leaders" -- and I think I will now make everybody angry and say we citizens of Planet Earth need to be less lazy.

We're getting dumped on right and left and most folks just say things like, "What can we do?" -- or -- "I'm just a peon and it don't affect me." -- or -- "They didn't mean it that way."

Anyway, I gotta move all my brown cows out of that field over there. The black ones are complaining and it looks like one of their leaders is building some sort of projectile tossing device.

At last. Someone is able to explain the meaning of 'any' to me. Thank you.
Thanks also, for exposing that leader folks have been misleading citizen folks. Is this a recent phenomenon? Shocking ! Something should be done about it.

Can the cows help us?

I am usually a very humble creature of this planet, but the depth of your expression of appreciation for my helping you expand your knowledge was such that I felt it would be most impolite of me if I were not to state with equal sincerity that you are indeed very welcome. Very glad to be of help to you folks from that island over there where that Churchill fella got y'all out of such a bind as you got yourselves into with another nasty-type human creature.

And, yes, I will consult with a few of the more intelligent members of my bovine group to see if they may wish to offer you some advice on that matter. Seems like I owe that to you.

Somehow, when I read that I think of Sarah Palin...

JREFの皆さん、こんにちは!

It's been a hell of a week for both Seoul and Pyongyang this week, and I'd like to post some new developments on the Korean Peninsula.

The Termination of Kaesong Industrial Complex

Yes. Once a symbol of cooperation between and a step toward to the unification of the two, last-standing divided nations on planet Earth, the Kaesong Industrial Complex was closed on the 11th day of February 11.

This illustrates how high the tension between North and South Koreas is. In retaliation for the long-range missile launched by the Pyongyang and as a warning for a possible fourth nuclear test conducted by it, Seoul decided to "limit" its business operations in Kaesong. Then, North Korea froze all assets there, kicked out all South Korean workers, and thus put a stop to any and all business activity. In response, South Korea cut of the supply of electricity and water to the Kaesong region. This is viewed as South Korea's appeal to the international community that it resolutely supports sanctions being imposed on North Korea for the transgressions it committed.

Now, here is an interesting issue which a lot of South Koreans are talking about. Kaesong is a special administrative industrial region in North Korea. In the present, there are about 150,000 North Korean people living in Kaesong. These people had the privilege of continuous supply of electricity and water from the South which invested a huge sum of money in building the public infrastructure in that region. Suddenly, they have no access to such things. Do you think these North Korean people may be the seeds of revolution in North Korea?

Military Firepower: Who's Stronger?

South Korea is now seriously considering the deployment of THAAD, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, from the United States despite China's strong opposition (For your information, China is South Korea's biggest trading partner, so you can guess the grip China has on South Korea). In addition, US deployed additional Patriot missile batteries and troops in South Korea on top of all the joint military demonstrations including the B-52 bomber which flew over South Korean airspace. In fact, some people are even saying that South Korea must consider developing its own nuclear weapon using the nuclear facilities in the country. But this seems to be a difficult endeavor considering the fact that Republic of Korea is a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NTP).

Meanwhile, North Korea is now in the stage of forming a third so-called "missile belt" on the norther side of the Korean Peninsula.

The first missile belt is mainly constituted by about 400 Scud missiles with an additional 40 mobile missile launching pads. They cover the entire South Korean land. About 300 Rodong missiles are deployed in the second missile belt, and they not only include South Korea but also Japan and the US military bases there in their range. The third missile belt is currently home to about 30 ~ 50 Musudan missiles, and North Korea is trying to add the KN-08 missiles, which has the US mainland in its range, to the third belt.

Okay, that was a mouthful. I think it's better to look at a photo.

But again, you can't stop doubting North Korea's actual capabilities. One reason is that their equipment are very old. As for the long-range missiles, missile tests have not been conducted to prove the missiles' effectiveness.

Very good news that China has backed a new set of North Korea sanctions submitted to the UN for ratification. How the search of cargo ships is carried out will be interesting to learn; but the strict ban on the supply of aviation fuel and rocket fuel is a logical and important one. The sad thing about this and any kind of sanctions is that the ordinary men, women and children suffer (particularly in NK's case). This latest round of sanctions however, is entirely aimed at reducing the country's military capacity. I'll look at the japanese response today with interest.
North Korea: US submits tougher sanctions to UN - BBC News

I believe, N-Korea is not considered as a danger for its neighbors, if America and some neighbors (such as S-Korea) don't provoke its people, government and army.
Pyongyang believes, America and S-Korea are planning to damage independence and territorial integrity of N-Korea.

As far as I know, America fleets are patrolling around N-Korea seas in recent years and have some suspicious relationship with S-Korea government. Apparently, America is threatening N-Korea with an especial language and Pyongyang has realized the message and this made the North- Koreans mad and this situation can be dangerous.

I believe, the solution is that, America should withdraw from its provocative positions around N-Korea and doesn't excite its government and army politically. Also the countries like S-Korea and Japan don't show themselves as allied of USA and don't show enmity to Pyongyang, because these behaviors provoke North Koreans.

Maybe if we all fall on our knees and beg, North Korea will play nice. Mars, your attitude is naive.

Thomas, does Japan have the capability to shoot down a missile?

And btw, Sarah Palin fans may be excited to hear that she's going to be playing a judge in a new reality show.

As far as I know, the people and leader of N-K want their land to be secure against threats of foreign forces. They are not malicious, violent and aggressive but America's military threats has caused they confront USA defensively.
I believe, the best solution in this case is that, America and Seoul change their threatening policies and encounter N-K more friendly and lawfully. USA government must respect other nations and their territories. The fleets and navies of USA must not sailing around other countries, threaten and frighten
those people and government. It is not a good policy and deal with other nations.
However, if N-Koreans are not worry about their security and safety against America and S-K, they will go out from defensive mode and will go back to a friendly and peacefully mood.

That wouldn't happen because the whole regime is dependent on keeping the population fearful of America and outsiders. They need to vilify America etc to keep their cult going.

But apparently Kim-Jong-un is more serious against threats than to be a deceiver on his people. Seemingly he doesn't fear a probable war and is prepare to confront his oppositions and hug dying, and so his people!
These are what I have realized about N_K and its nation in recent years. Provoking such lovers to their land and nation is dangerous and as I recommended, USA must withdraw from its annoying position around seas of North-Korea and also stop urging South-Kora to engage with Pyongyang.

Can you imagine official propaganda department of a "not malicious, violent and aggressive" government producing a video which features a nuclear strike by that "not malicious, violent and aggressive" against a populated area? Take a look at this masterpiece by DRPKtoday
skip to 3:40 to see a rendition of Washington being hit by peaceful north-korean missile.

As for "threatening policies" i don't believe any nation gives a **** about DRPK's territory as long as it stays as is. Prove me wrong if i'm mistaken.

Mansoor, are you aware that a state of war still officially exists between North and South Korea? The US troops stationed in South Korea and ships patrolling nearby international waters are the only thing keeping the region stable, despite the state of war.

But what I see is something else. USA has a close deal and relationship with Seoul government and demonstrates that America is the Seoul allied and both governments and armies are in a united front! USA even had a military joint exercises with South-Korea that was considered as an intimidation versus N-K

I am not agree with such crazily action of Koreans, but don't forget USA itself had such great wrong a few years ago. At the time, America government threatened us lawlessly that White House will perform a nuclear attack to Iran!
It made us shocked, because it was the lawlessly and illegal threat of a government that claimed America is the most developed country and is the center of democracy and civilization in the world!

Now America government has encountered the same threat that expressed versus Iran and its honorable and faultless people.

Iran have proclaimed always (mostly in the united nation organization) that nuclear weapon is anti-citizen and its target are people, not an army! These dangerous and horrible weapons of mass destruction should be removed and disassembled and their atomic substances are used in the power plants for electricity production...

However, the starter of this game was USA itself and the arrow of the nuclear threat came back to its politicians.

Nonetheless we are oppose to this dangerous game and condemn every nuclear threat , whether from America or North-Korea and wish a world without such banned weapons.

Mansoor, you are full of Iranian news-media propaganda. Of course the US and S. Korea have a close relationship--they are allies, and the US has a defense treaty with S. Korea. The US has never threatened N. Korea, except implicitly with retaliation under the defense treaty.

Your claim that the US threatened Iran with nuclear attack is absurd. I defy you to prove that claim with something other than Iranian news-media propaganda. The US does not go around threatening nations with nuclear attack. It would be stupid and unnecessary.

I'm now inclined to the view that you are just a troll, but you could prove me wrong by proving your claims.

Before 12 and 13 April 2010 America ensured all countries of the world that USA will never has a nuclear attack to any country, based on NTP ( Non Proliferation Treaty) agreement.

But afterward, based on a a new revision in America Nuclear Strategy ( at the same time), it was payed attention to make an exception against terrorist groups and organizations and the countries that support them. In that expression, Iran and N-Korea were excepted Implicitly (without a direct expression of nuclear attack to them). While Iran is one of the the most effective factors of destroying and removing terrorism in the Middle east.

Also "Sheldon Abelson" one of the richest and most influential man in America encouraged USA government to launch a nuclear bomb in one of the deserts of Iran to be as a warning for Iranian!

2ni39xv.webp

in respond to one of the BBC reporter's question, he said, " the president of America should order to army that first release a nuclear bomb on the desert of Iran then says to president of Iran by telephone, did you see the bomb?! The second bomb will land on Tehran. If you persist on your positions we will eliminate you!

I don't know why I'm doing this; I must have too much time on my hands.

Mansoor, I asked you for proof, not more propaganda details. Proof means internet links to legitimate news sources or journals. Where are the BBC, CNN, or other news reports?

Sheldon Abelson? Hmm, I don't recall voting for him for US president. I never heard of him before you mentioned his name. A pro-Israel billionaire, my brief internet research tells me. But I can't find a link to the quote you attribute to him. Again, where is the BBC or other reputable news story for such a sensational remark?

Regardless of what he might have said, Abelson isn't a representative of the US government. We have free speech in the US, so the government can't stop private parties from saying whatever nonsense they wish. Therefore I request that you retract your original claim that the White House threatened Iran with a nuclear attack. It never happened.

Mansoor, how are you progressing on marshaling proof for the following claim?

"I am not agree with such crazily action of Koreans, but don't forget USA itself had such great wrong a few years ago. At the time, America government threatened us lawlessly that White House will perform a nuclear attack to Iran!"

In 2010, Robert Gibbs, the spokesman of White House, accused Iran violating NPT and Robert Gates the defense minister of America threatened Iran Implicitly to a nuclear attack.

Gibbs that was speaking with reporters and journalists in a weekly meeting, in Tuesday (in 2010) claimed:" Iran has done a lot of provocative activities in the last years and has refused performing its commitments in the case of NTP.

Do you have a source for your claims? No one can tell from your words alone whether the context and actual statements support your interpretation.

The US has a Secretary of Defense, not a "defense minister."

Also beside this claim, Robert Gates, the defense minster of America said:
" The new strategy of America named ' Nuclear Posture Review' which was offered to congress by president Obama, in Tuesday and based on this strategy, USA will not use nuclear bombs versus those countries that have not nuclear power and are committed to NTP, and it has a strong massage to Iran and North-Korea!"

He emphasized: " In the face of such countries, America reserve the right of using every option for itself!"

These declarations of two responsible American authorities are considered as threatening Iran, from view of diplomatic rhetoric. Based on his expression, White House reserve the right of using nuclear weapons for itself.

Of course It is related to prior years, when Iran was accused by west unjustly and Iran nation were put in an injustice economic sanctions for years.

You're paraphrasing again. I can tell because your English syntax is incorrect. It's not proper to use quotation marks unless you're quoting someone's actual words. How about giving us a link so we can read the actual words and context for ourselves?

Maybe someone else is willing to help you out here, but I haven't been able to find out what on earth you're talking about.
