The picture you see is from one of Japanese ads made in 2010 sponsored by the Nagasaki local government. There are many other Japanese ads like that long before 2010 and after 2010 including in 2014 like what you can see blow.

This goes to show that Anime characters are clearly not based on westerners because Japanese themselves not believe it.

If you look at very old paintings that include foreigners , they often were painted with large/long noses. Not sure if modern Japanese in the bigger cities still feel that way.

I actually didn't mind the noses and wigs so much; they're a recurring thing on the program. But I do wish they'd quit the wretched mimicry of foreigners speaking horrible Japanese. After all, the point of the noses and wigs is to signify that it is a foreigner doing the speaking.

Anyway, yeah, not much annoyed about the physical stereotypes and caricatures. You find that for whites and blacks in America as well. However, the dumb/ can't speak Japanese/ can't speak without an accent stereotypes though, way, way sick of that.

Not my usual line of tolerance and defense of Japan, but I find the typical Japanese sense of humor to be immature and unintelligent and I wish more of them would grow up and smarten up.

All popular white celebrity popular in China are pretty hot by both Asian and white standards.

But Asian celebrity popular in America are not pretty by Asian standards. Give you few examples, Lucy Lu, Sandra Oh, Wendi Deng Murdoch, Mark Zergurberg's GF. Scores of ugly Asian porn actress active in America.

It's a well established common knowledge within the Chinese community that white people always prefer to have not so good looking Asian partners. But I never knew about Asians guys prefer to have ugly white women by Western standards.

Asian guys would want to avoid small eyes or monolids likes plagues, while white guys don't really care if the Asian girl have a pair of monolids or double lids.

Asians guys like small, 3D faces with small chin, white people prefer to have Asian with large flat faces.

Having lived in both cultures in my life so I consider myself to be fairly impartial in this matter.

Almost all Japanese will regard a foreigner as the ability of Japanese not to be spoken first.
It is natural. It will think that Japanese can be spoken to her.
However it is never actually happened like this.

The video is an exaggeration, but that sort of thing really does happen. I've experienced it myself several times.

I experienced this quite often ... on a few occasions, not matter what I said, the Japanese person would refuse to speak to me; as if they were experiencing some kind of mental blackout induced by panic at having to converse with a foreigner!

The frustrating and bizarre thing was that this seemed to occur more as my Japanese became more fluent!

Caster, you have no experience of being a foreigner in Japan. I'm telling you (again) I have experienced similar situations myself several times. Many of us have. Probably most of us. That's why they thought to make the video and why the rest of us can identify with it. It's funny because finally we can laugh at what is a frustrating, annoying, and sometimes insulting situation from our own past experience.

Of course, you are free to continue to think I'm lying about it.

I guess I'm lucky that this has never happened to me. Sure, people may not always assume I can speak Japanese, but as for outright ignoring me that has never happened. I can imagine that would be very frustrating.
