For you personally, I'm rolling my eyes at you and only you, because you've built up this narrative that anyone who doesn't agree with your point of view hates transgendered/are transphobic/etc.

Exactly my interpretation. The thread title does say "Ask me almost anything," yet those serious questions are left unanswered, the only reply is that of disdain for not being an encouraging statement. If that's what you wanted, you should have titled the thread "I Believe That I Am A Woman, Applaud Me, But Ask No Questions."

The original thread title said "Ask me anything", but we very quickly learned that wasn't the intent. Review the first page to see why.

There are indeed some hateful remarks in this thread, and definitely quite a bit of less-than-understanding ones. Maybe some of the people posting here could open up (at the very least) a quick wiki before flinging judgements.
Everyone has a bodily and a mental gender. The biological disorder that makes these different from each other is well documented. In that light, I cannot see a reason why we shouldn't address Thor as "she". She's serious about this, and what exactly are we if not our minds?

My friend never really doubted she had the gender identity of a woman. She was quite sure at a very early age and she only saw this confirmed when she grew up. I got to know her (over the internet) without the knowledge that she was transsexual. I got the impression of a genuine woman, but I did ask myself questions after she told me, that's only natural I think. But I got to know her better and she is definitely a woman and a fine one at that. Though I only slightly felt sexually attracted to her. I feel attracted to her as a very nice, humorous and witty, laid back personality, and I hope we will stay friends for life.

Bottom line is: it's not like transsexual people are from outer space. You'll find quirks and likes and dislikes, interests and wishes for life, that makes all of us human.

Actually, I don't think this is an emotional topic at all. Its just that some people make a conscious choice to be ignorant, rude and intolerant for the sake of their sick enjoyment of schadenfreude.

Of course none of us are in a position to diagnose Thor (even an expert could not do it over the net), but the only logical choice is to take her word for her personal situation (or just get the hell out of her thread). Anything else is as I said, ignorant, rude and intolerant.

If I made a thread about being black and talking about ways to change my ethnicity, you seriously think I would have the support of anyone on this forum? Even if i felt black, would that make it true? "I think, therefore I am" is a philosophical saying, not a factual one.

The reason why I post on threads in here is for debate, not insult. I have every right to point out flaws in arguments, and ask questions to see if there is sound reasoning behind a person's argument. Having a nonsensical replay of "hater" really serves no purpose. If we can't even debate in this thread, what is it doing in "Serious Discussions?"

If you were White and were raised in one of the many Black cultures, then that Black culture would be an integral part of your identity. If you made physical alterations to your body to feel more accepted in the Black culture that is integral to your identity, I would support it, with the caveat that it did not put you at too much risk.

But when you take someone like Michael Jackson, everyone got the feeling that what he was doing was in fact turning his back on his true identity, not embracing what was actually his true identity. (never mind the debate about whether he had that skin disease or not. I am speaking of his perceived motives here and the debate about them).

Aside, so many Black Americans are more immersed in White culture than Black culture and do things like straighten their hair as a result. Of course there are other motives, but that is one. White culture is part of many Black Americans' identities. Absolutely no sense making a fuss over it or trying to tell them they should be more "Black".

There is a bit of Black culture in me thanks to living next to a Black family growing up (was lucky. They were the only Black family in the neighborhood, or the next one over, or the next one!). They taught me how to walk. Seriously! I used to walk very White, all stiff and stuff.

Zorro, your comparison falls flat. It's totally acceptable for a white person to have been immersed in black culture, to the point that they would get surgery. Unusual, but acceptable. And of course to share in that culture, and emulate it. Totally okay.

If that person demanded others call them black, and labeled anyone who didn't as showing them hate? That's ridiculous, and essentially that's what Thor has done here.

I never heard of anyone diagnosed with racial identity disorder. And since gender, but not race, comes with natural roles, I can't imagine there would ever be one.

Fair enough. I still think Thor is wrong for claiming that anyone who calls him by the male gender is being hateful.
