Hi telete,
Here in Portugal the interview was part in English (70%) and part in Portuguese

Hi Peppe,

What University would you like to apply for?

I sent an e-mail to a contact that I've found in the University's website andI thought it would be sent to the application department. However, I was lucky because the contact was of a Professor that is of my field of study. Since then, I've been talking with him and he put me in contact with other professors that have shown interest in my subject.

You just have to try and send an e-mail. Try to look for the contact of the department of your field of interest. But, perhaps, the division of international affairs is a good start.

Good lucky ;)

Hi there.. about the e-mail addresses, they usually have more information on their Japanese website. i sent them a letter in japanese saying for whom it may concern.. i wanna apply for a graduate/ research degree in animation please forward this message to the department that is best suited for my research and if you are interested please send me an acceptance letter as soon as possible. (ofcourse i wrote everything in the politest way I could..). Most replies wanted me to send everything via post. which is a struggle as dhl is 60 pounds per document.. -_____- '''' funny thing is.. most universities are on holidays at the moment. and atleast 3 from the 7 universities I contacted said that they cant give me a reply by the embassy's deadline.(late august) So i really dont get why they would consider Mext students when they make it impossible to gain acceptance letters. Its driving me crazyyyyyy. I thought Japan would be full of Animation Graduate School but apparently thats not the case. They do have animation courses as a BA degree. but few do Animation in masters. ;/ but oh well.. the stress is driving me crazyy. :giggle:

I got the embassy recommendation!
Ahhhh I didn't think I would make it! Even if I don't actually get the scholarship, I feel accomplished.
Just out of curiosity... Once you got the embassy recommendation, what are the odds of actually being selected by the japanese government?

me neither :( , good luck to the ones that got pre selected, and for the ones that have another try, do your best!

Yeah. Cheer up everyone! Let us all still try our best next year. Maybe this is not yet our time. GOD is planning something better for all of us. So, don't worry, okay? :)

Thank you MsHappyD :) Just like some people here, it isn't final yet. Still need to do the legwork to get the LOAs. Good luck to you and the rest. You'll do better next year :)

Got LOA from Tohoku University!!!! 🙂

I wanted to know from my friends that after we get LOA what are the odds of going in Japan, i.e., does anyone gets rejected in the MEXT second screening??

Hello everyone!

I am a candidate for the MEXT scholarship for graduates. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the budget for next year.

Last year someone shared this message on 4th of October, which makes me think that they have or they are about to publish the budget for 2013. It would be interesting to know... I cannot get that information because of my basic Japanese skills. Sorry!

(message from last year)
Hi all! This is my first post at JREF and I would like to share and confirm this (good) news to all of you

According to FY 2012 MEXT budget request document on Higher Education,
www.mext.go.jp/component/b_menu/other/__icsFiles/afieldfile/2011/10/03/1311670_011.pdf,
the number of scholarship recipients for foreign students is 10.865 people <国費外国人留学生への奨学金の給付(10,865人) page 31>.

Compared to last year FY 2011 budget scholarship recipients (10.656 people)
www.mext.go.jp/component/b_menu/other/__icsFiles/afieldfile/2011/07/27/1297091_10.pdf, this constitutes an INCREASE of 209 people

Based on the information from these documents and healthy dose of Google Translate, I conclude that most of us who have passed the primary screening will most likely pass the secondary screening. I would like to hear comments from all the senpai here.

Dear Sir,
I had done F.Sc (Pre-Engineering), now I want to apply for undergraduate MEXT scholarship. Please guide me that how can I apply?

I am also wondering about the budget for the FY 2013.......If anyone have any information regarding the budget of 2013, it will be very helpful if he or she can share the info in this forum.....

agus_squallido------do you have any info about the budget???

Samik

Hi Samik

Unfortunately I do not have that information, as I said before I cannot read Japanese, therefore It would be difficult for to me to understand the budget document. Let's see if someone in the forum can help us! :D

Hello everyone!
I also applied this year for undergraduate, but I only found this forum today - nice to know that there's a place like this :)
Thankfully I passed both the test and the interview - those two phone calls I got from the embassy were probably the happiest moments for me this year :D
Back then I though waiting for 3 weeks for the answer was gonna kill me, but after that I have to wait months...

Does anyone know when the final results will be announced? I was told "most likely in December" but the embassy's website says December-January... It'd be nice to know a little more than "sometime in this 2 months period". ^^ Does anyone know why it takes so much time, and what are they taking into account when choosing?
Also, do you know what are the chances to actually get the scholarship at this stage? I was only told that 3 people were selected including me, and that it is possible that all 3 of us will get it, but I guess that depends on other countries' applicants as well... :)

Ahhh. I'm really jealous. But don't worry. I will be applying again next year. :))

when I asked in interview how mext chooses people, I was told that they look at exams' results and motivation (and, it's my guess but, probably what interviewers say about the candidate).
Btw, there are 3 undergrads here who got recommended and very few people from Europe get this scholarship (about 10?) so I guess our chances are... not too big. I really want to get the scholarship but I'm preparing myself for the worst, so I'm trying not to think too much about when results will come out. at least yet. lol :D

but good luck to us all

Friends,

I have got good news for you. The MEXT FY 2013 Budget Document is published:

See this link: www.mext.go.jp/component/b_menu/other/__icsFiles/afieldfile/2012/09/10/1325570_1.pdf

With some help of Google Translate, I found out that the no. of scholarships for foreign students has been increased and the no. is 11,006. It means an increase of 141 students as compared to 10,865 students in 2012.

If you see the link, the info is given on page 36 (last page) bearing the Japanese title: 国費外国人留学生への奨学金の給付

Hope that all of us who have cleared the initial screening will make it through the 2nd screening.

Cobiewankenobi, according to the information that I have obtained, the final results for Research/PhD students are generally declared in late Jan-mid Feb.......We will have to wait some more months before we can finally have a sigh of relief.....:)

Good luck to us all.....:)

Oh, so Santa's gift-giving trip will be delayed, haha. Last year, the announcement was around early-mid December. Thanks again, samik! Ganbatte ne everyone!:)

Does anyone know how it works for people in Canada or the US? How intesively do they look at your high school marks, or does the exam count

It's been a while since the last time I visited this thread... How is everyone dealing with the wait?

Surprisingly I'm not all that anxious, but I do wonder if everyone who got preselected in my country will actually get the scholarship! I'm so curious.

Also, I've only heard experiences from postgraduate applicants, but how is it like for undergraduate or special training students, since they don't have to do the university contact, LOA and stuff? They just get accepted into a certain college and dorm and that's it?

Hihi, i am intending to apply for MEXT Scholarship...but just to ask, how is the passing rate of the exam held at the end of the first year preparatory course???

...Just afraid that i will get send back to my country after one year...

Thanks in advance :)

so, my waiting friends, December is almost here :)
