Whew, its been a while since i've been here!

Well I got in as a Japanese returnee, not as a foreigner (I was born in Japan but was raised in Europe and the USA). I'm not sure if you are allowed to apply as a foreigner so you should definitely directly ask Sophia's Admissions Office just to be safe.

I must say this though, I really doubt that it makes a difference whether if you apply as a foreigner or a Japanese returnee (regarding your TOEFL and SAT scores...)
I do not know how "bad" your toefl and SAT scores were but you have time to improve, just as the admin said.

not to bump an old thread but would you say there are more Japanese returnees than international students? or even vice-versa?
How does the overall department feel like? Is it similar to a small liberal arts school or do you always see people you've never seen before in your classes?

I am also interested to know more about the FLA, sadly there is very little info on the web about it, and based on what I have read its quite balanced with japanese and foreign people

well... I applied to FLA, I took the IELTS rather than the TOEFL and got a good score (7, it says to be recommended you need at least 6, so I think is good) and my SAT are just a little above 1500. With a good essay and good recommendation letters, do you think I have a chance?

Hey guys! I have lived in Japan all my life, but I used to go to an international school, now I'm a junior in a regular Japanese high school (ﾂ坂?堋校窶啣窶扼ﾂ青ｶ). My TOEFL ibt score is 111 and SAT is 1850, which is fine, but my school grades are just so-so. I have triple citizenship so I have Japanese and 2 other nationalities. English is my native language.What do you think? Can I get in?

I'm a US student living on an American base in Japan. I was wondering what my chances are for getting into Sophia University's Faculty of Arts with a 4.0 and 1810 on my SAT. Does anyone know where I stand? Or, does anyone at least know what the average test scores are of people who get admitted?

Side note: My Japanese is terrible, which is why I'm looking into an English program.

According to what I know, your score for the SAT is higher than the average for most successful applicants. Your GPA is great, no problem with that, you just have to get a good score on the TOEFL and I think you'll be good to go.
