I think you can write admission acquired. And they might ask you about this in the interview like how you contacted the professor, so be prepared about that.
THe 窶｢ﾃ看ｽ窶? is not that important at this stage, since the embassy lady told me yesterday I can change it whatever I want and return to her be4 Aug 13 with the loa.

I've too received a verbal consent from a professor but am quite hesitant to put this down as "Admission Acquired", in case the interviewers started questioning if we have received official acceptance,... can anyone with some experience offer some advice?

Do write it as admission acquired. You noticed that in the Japanese version, it's actually written as admissionなど required, right? So I guess if you get even a verbal consent, do write it and amplify or even boost it during the interview, which will enhance your chance of getting it in a certain degree as if the professor in your field can accept you, why the interviewers in the other field not choosing you?
Anyway, that's in my opinion.

Also, anyone know how to go about getting a university recommendation? I can't seem to find any info on it. The professor in Japan really wants me to come study at Osaka and said he'll do whatever possible. Does he have the power to recommend me for the university?

If he strongly recommends you, then he can recommend you through university recommendation. I'm not sure exactly about the university recommendation table in the Osaka University if that's what you intend to study. The general deadline for the university recommendation is from November to January, varies from the university. And the final results will be come at around mid July. The entrance date is normally in October.
If your professor really wants to help you, ask him to ask the office of the graduate school which he belongs to. They should have the information you need, because as far as I know, the recommendation materials will have to pass through there.

The deadline for University nomination is early next year, January maybe even as late as February. You won't find any information on it because it's not open to the public. It's internal. In other words, the professor has to nominate you. So keep in touch with your professor and remind him to consider you for the university MEXT nomination. Before he submits his nomination forms, he will send you a letter requesting the very same documents/forms the embassy requests. Good luck on it though!!! I'm in the same position as you. Hopefully we could both go to Japan in October 2011.

In the 日本政府（文部科学省）奨学金留学生申請書（別紙), which you can download from http://www.mext.go.jp/a_menu/koutou/ryugaku/1291544.htm, you can see at the part asking you to choose three universities something like this: Receiving Admission（入学許可書等の取得状況）. Also, the embassy lady in charge gave me another paper of 奨学金留学生申請書（別紙), and told me that I can refill in the universities and orders and others if I want in this paper when handed in the universities loas at mid Aug. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is in my opinion writing admission acquired even if you have only oral consent from the professor would boost the chance of getting the scholarship and they wouldn't really check to see if you have had already an official letter on that.

Hey everyone, i just found out this great site! i pass the selection to enter for the interview,Wao, u guys prepared well! but i still have so many doubt. Pls help!
1) i haven took tofle test yet is it needed for selection in the interview?
2) if i pass the selection, how much time particularly in Malaysia that i will be given to look for supervising professor? and take tofle test in case the university need it for application?
3) I major in architecture, i would like to take master course after the research period( at least 6 month in Malaysia) is the master course in Japan a professional course or a master course?

Hey guys,

I received a stack of documents (application forms, attachment and etc) from the embassy. We were asked to submit 5 sets of documents after filling them up (3 originals & 2 photocopies). Question is, do I make the photocopies after pasting my photo on the original form or before that? I recalled someone asking the same question in previous thread but I had a hard luck looking up for it. Can somebody help me with this? Arigatou

Blurcheryl, seems like you only need to hand in all the application forms if you can pass the exams. Here, we handed in all the application forms at first before all started. I think, for the photos, you can scan it, and put it in the application form in your computer, and print them out.
Or, why don't you just hand in 5 original photos for safe. That's what I did. But here, they only need 4 photos. So I handed in 4.

Yes, but I too am thinking of getting backups in case of emmergency. You can start contacting others after your interview or even now for good. The most thing I'm afraid is what if the professor of top choice suddenly changes his mind.

Exactly...that is my fear too. And somehow I feel it bad to contact others when I've obtained verbal consent from my first and only choice. Futhermore, I did my proposal based the on the research conducted by that professor. So, if I were to send that proposal to other professors, it's pretty obvious that they aren't my first choice. Hmmm....dilemma....

I had my English and Japanese language exam today. I think I did quite well in English and Japanese both. I had a tough time in the sentence correction part of English test. Dokkai in Japanese test were long and a bit confusing but I was able to solve it. Had one interview with the subject expert also. They asked me all the questions which were only indirectly related to my research and didnt gave me chance to give the answers properly, they were shooting questions one after another not waiting for me to give the answer, I think they must be judging my spontanuity to answer instead on my knowledge on my subject. They will call only a selcted few who pass this stage of selection process for next round of interview I have no hope that I will be called.

I took the exam yesterday. Yea the english correction section was rough, but overall I think I did alright. Now I'm just getting myself mentally ready for my interview next week. So nervous >_<
I'm also paranoid that I wrote down my interview day and time incorrectly, I'm going to call them to confirm tomorrow.

Hello everyone, I'm new here, just discovered this awesome place and I decided to register and join. I passed my written exam, and will be having my interview next week. I was nervous and after reading what you guys written here, I feel like I'm not well prepared at all.

I would like to ask that is it mostly of you people already have the desired universities you wish to enroll at this stage (which is before the first interview)? Since I don't have any experience here, I'm not sure whether by stating the particular universities will actually increase the chances to be selected as second interview's candidate.

Hi guys. I just had test and interview yesterday, now just have to wait for the results! I did horribly on the Japanese test but I think I still passed because of the English test. If English is your 1st language the English test is veeery easy, some weird Japanese English in there though (Japanese people really love English idioms for some reason...). Most of the interview questions focused on "Why Japan and not someplace else?" and "What's the final result? Why is it important?" I think I did ok but definitely not great. Good luck to everyone else!!

Earlier I ask the embassy reps whether I still able to submit my application next year, he said that I am still eligible to apply despite I already fail twice.

Yes it is 60 min exam, but not 20 texts, it has grammar, kanji and very long texts.

Hey, guys. Just saying that I finally get two replies from two professors in the University of Tokyo, 2 days after I have sent the emails. Maybe I'm just too nervous. 2 days are not long anyway. One seems to be happy to accept me while one asks me to write another research plan of 5000 English words. Wow, my god. Anyway, if I can grab both of them, I would have three loas with two from Tokyo U and one from Kyoto U.
Seems like I'm walking kinda earlier than your guys, since my embassy result was announced last Wednesday. I hope you guys will grab the scholarships, and I sincerely pray for you all!
Since I like parties, I do wish to meet you guys next April to have big parties somewhere in Japan!

Flidar: I doubt it will help to get two supervisors from one university...
After all if you are not placed at Tokyo university it will be for different reasons than who is supervising you: (Tokyo (university) will be 'overbooked' like every year, so if you're unlucky they might change you someplace else)
Furthermore, the professors might be surprised and offended if you in the end have to choose between one of them.

My current supervisor waited almost two weeks before replying to my e-mail.

The grammar questions are about level 3 and the dokkai part is more closer to level 1 the choice of answers is a bit confusing.
