Same here, interview on July 27, results coming a week later. Loas should be submitted until September 10, however.

Same here, interview on July 27, results coming a week later. Loas should be submitted until September 10, however.
Just had my interview today after passing the written exam..............!
6 people were in the panel, 2 japanese and 4 from my country that is Pakistan.
The japanese lady drilled me with questions such as why this university or that university and i got confused and said Tokyo university has good busines faculty however tokyo university does not have a business faculty...!!!!!!
She also asked me about what cities of japan u know and y they are famous? I had less knowledge about that as well.......she also drilled me a lot regarding my proposed research proposal and past study.............
This forum has been a great help....what do u people think about my chances after my interview..........My interview lasted app. 20 minutes.

I'm an applicant for the college of technology students and I got the Embassy recommendation! I'm Excited but still have to wait until December to get a reply from the MEXT. I was just wondering, in case I get the acceptance by the MEXT, and since the Japanese lady told me that's neither a University nor a Specialized school! Where am I going to study? :S

Congratulations Damas! I hope I will be hearing some good news soon as well.
I see, our embassy requires all loa return to them before August 13, while the first round of results were announed in June 23.
Cong. College of Technology, different from our research student, right? Don't really know what it is.

oh, by the way, I have been reading a lot of tips and experience about the scholarship in this thread, and hereby I thank you everyone who have shared it, it really helped me a lot.
Now, In Indonesia we are still waiting for the announcement of who will be chosen as nominees for Embassy Recommendation at July 16th
I heard it's approximately around 40 people (out of 100 who passed the document screening) will be selected as nominees.

It's hard to estimate about that. However, I guess the results will be out soon after the interview and let's pray that you would get it.
I have read some experiences of people who did not do that well in the interview but still managed the scholarship.........................!!!!!!!!

Ok...time to share.
I had my interview 2 days back and I thought of sharing the questions which I got though they don't deviate much from what flidar had posted. So here goes:
1) Introduce yourself
2) Why do you select Japan and not US since it would be more advanced to carry out your research in the US?
3) Explain your research proposal
4) What is your current field of specialization? And how is it related to your proposed research?
5) What do you plan to research on after getting your degree in Japan?

Since I've received so much from this thread, I guess its time for me to contribute a little. I had my interview yesterday, my experience with the interview was similar to blurcheryl.
1 Introduced myself
2 Since I already had an adviser they asked, how did you find your adviser and how did you go about contacting him.
3 A couple questions about my experiences with japanese culture and language. They never asked me to speak any japanese, but it might be due to me telling them that I didnt know very much, but I at least know enough to introduce myself in japanese .
4 Some personal questions about my past. I probably have a much different up bringing than most of the applicants.
5 Questions about my proposal. This was the roughest part. They had an Indonesian professor who was well informed about my research area who asked a bunch of questions in an attempt to discredit my research topic and tried to put some pressure on me to see how I would react. If it was really their intention to see how I would react in a high pressure situation, and to question my knowledge about my field of research, then I think I defended my proposal and research theme well enough. However, if they truly believed that my research idea was dumb and useless then

I can't say I'm well-prepared but I just gave my answers to the best of my knowledge. I'm pretty much the kind of person with the principle of preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Well, wish me luck

I was asked these questions regarding my research (I only put the ones which are quiet difficult for me):
1. If you don't get the results that you were expecting from your research, what will you do? (worst case scenario, they said that my expectation is too high)
2. Have you ever thought about the patent that you might get from the result of your research? Have you discussed it with your advisor-to-be?
3. Why you have to conduct your research in Japan? Why don't you do it in Indonesia? (They asked this question a few times, I wonder why, because I think I have answered and elaborate my reasons clearly but they keep asking me the same question)
Since the interview schedule in Indonesia for this year is distributed according to the study field of the proposals, they got some Indonesian professors who specialize at the field, and they asked so many question about the research proposals...

and first of all thanks to flidar for posting the questions - they gave me a good overview what could be asked.
I passed the primary screening and I am currently trying to get LoA or better a 'Entrance Admission' because I want to get directly into a PhD program.
I want to share my experience with you:
I prepared a little bit on the quesions only because I don't want to study some answers by hard: I get the feeling it makes me unflexible in interviews.
Actually I dont remember how long it was- about 15min. And most questions were about my research plan and its relevance in general and for Japan- it felt a little bit like I had to defense my plan.
What I would say is: Read your research proposal again before the interview and gain more knowledge than you wrote on the proposal you submitted.
They asked me only 2 questions regarding Japan which weren't connected to my proposal: What fascinates me about it? And what I have experienced there on my holidays (I spent 2 weeks there last winter)?
Btw: I don't know any Japanese yet - so it actually really doesn't matter. (at least in Austria)
What my questions are- has anyone got any information about entering a Uni directly as a PhD student?
Would it be possible to find a supervisor who speaks English and write my thesis in English although the PhD program is officially in Japanese?

Meanwhile, I'm still obtaining loas from the University of Tokyo and the Kyoto University. I also want to start directly as ijulia as a phD. In my case, because in order to directly being accepted as a phD, I have to go to Japan to enter the entrance examinations. Therefore, I'm actually going to Kyoto to make a presentation and maybe later go to Tokyo to take the entrance exams. It's pretty hard and takes a lot of money, but I really don't wanna spend one more year to enter as a research student.
For you, ijulia, if the school that you wish to join can directly accept you as a phD student instead of going to Japan, that would be great. Normally, it's the G30 program that take phD student directly. You can check at school website about it. Also, I guess if the program you wish to join has entrance exam for Oct entrance, then it would be OK to spend half a year as a research student and then continue to be a phD. So you can get yourself familiar with Japan and the language in this half a year.
Anyway, it's just the first stop that we get the recommendation. Then let's continue for the loas.
