MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2011: General Discussions.

Oh! I just assumed that you've applied for the Research Student scholarship.

I am not sure how the embassy personnel are handling the screening process. Myself, I didn't want to mail the application so I handed it by hand, and the nice lady told me I will be contacted the following week if my application was accepted, and if it was rejected, I will not be notified at all.

You could call the embassy and ask them; that's the best advice I can give you, unfortunately!

Oh! I can't focus now!!

Thanks for answering my questions :) it meens so much :D
ojama shimasu ;)

hey guys, so sad..don't know how to express my feeling..I still did not get any email from Ms Yin until today..is that a sign that I'm not selected for the interview???? Oh my God...someone please tell me that's not true 😭

hey qwie,

I'd say try calling the embassy. Either Ms Yin or the education counsellor. They are pretty helpful. Calling them up is definitely better than waiting indefinitely (each day seems like years, i know).

I'm sorry to go back over this but I have a huge mess in my head:

English paper: Similar to 2010. I have no questions about it, is clear.

Japanese paper: Similar to 2009, 2008, 2007...?
You can choose the paper A B or C?
The exam contains long passages and questions about the text (like 2010)
or
Contains grammar and vocabulary exercises (like 2009, 2008, 2007...)

Thank you for your help!!! I really need this information because my japanese teacher has to give me precise material to reinforce more kanji/reading/grammar, etc.

I've just taken both tests this afternoon and the Japanese paper is like the year before the last. No A B C level for choose. For me, the first reading passage is very difficult and I got lost on the last three questions of the first reading passage.
The English paper is like last year's except the final part of finding mistakes. Overall, the English paper is quite easy, easier than the previous years as I see.
The embassy lady here told us that they will only inform eligible candidate to come to the Interview after 10 days.

anyone lurking from the Phils? does anyone know when the results from the primary screening usually comes out?

Yes...The English paper is quite easy. I think it needs 90% to get an interview

@Mitch. I am also waiting for the results of the primary screening. I just don't know when but last year I read a post of someone and she posted in the forum on June 11 that she was accepted to take the exam. Maybe the results in our country would be around that day too...goodluck to us... :)

@pout
👍 lool!! I called the Embassy and they told me that they haven't started notifying the candidates yet! The good news is that they had received my application. I feel less stressed now!! 😌 😌
thank you pout for helping me! I really appreciate it ! :P
one more thing, how does the screening process go? what things do they take into consideration?
:-)

Unfortunately, I didn't get much information. The funny part is that I ran out of money, and the phone hung up before I could get any information whatsoever. :D
But, don't worry! inshallah ikon ghir l khir 👍

I am glad! 😄 I hope you get chosen and do well in the tests! And you're very much welcome.

As for the screening process, I'm not quite sure. Out of the hundreds who have applied, I've only seen fifteen people today at the exams.

Hi blurcheryl,
I've sent an email to Ms Yin asking for confirmation yesterday...just waiting for her feedback today...I don't know what would happen to me if I did not selected for the interview..I can't concentrate on my work as long as I do not receive any news from Ms Yin..oh my God.. :(

I don't know if they have a policy like how many marks you have to get to go to the interview or it is like the top xx percent of the students in either Japanese or English test can go to the interview. Or they just set the mark at xxx and people who pass it can go to the interview. Do you know anything about that?
Actually, for the English paper, I think the only place I have made a few mistakes are the last part of the notorious mistakes finding part. But I'm not sure.
Good luck!
What marks do you think it's needed to get an interview in the Japanese test then?

for the Jap test, I think the first comprehension is quite difficult. But other questions are normal.

Hey qwie,

I know it's easier said than done but don't despair. There's always a hope and you can try next year if you're confirmed unsuccessful this time. I really hate to say this but I don't know other words of comfort anymore. I totally understand how you feel cuz I want this scholarship just as bad. But be strong and have faith in yourself.

@mrsmile around june 11th? Oh my quite near! Which thread? can you give me a link please? :) i'm also interested to know like when the exam was, etc... i'm not really eligible, though i just want to know what's the process like :)

Seems like you are pretty strong in both languages. Hope we both get the chance for the interview.

Perhaps I just forget the mistakes I have made.

BTW, are your major Jap./literal art? It seems u're quite good in language.

My major in Science

Hey, everybody!
Did you know that the Japanese and English tests are all the same for all programs (Undergraduate, Research, College of technology)??

flidar, ming2399, have you taken the tests with you from the exam?
Thank you=)

Dude, my major is biology. I'm interested in languages so I have spent some time learning Japanese before. Actually, you are quite good at languages I think. Have you taken the JLPT test and which level is that? Just wondering. I'm from CU btw.

Excuse me, but does your answer mean that you've taken the test (the booklet) home with you?
No, we are not allowed to take the test sheets home, obviously because the same tests are conducted in different countries at different times.
Also, the English and Japanese test papers are the same for both undergraduate students and research students. For other types of students, I have no idea.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought the question Soul posted was about taking the test home with you, which I found odd since you have to write your name on the booklet and hand it to the supervisor.
