Dear blurcheryl, actually, I was just asking for the format of the Japanese paper. If the paper is like last year consist of only short paragraphs with one question for each paragraph.
Anyway, if you can't remember it, thanks all the same!

Lol. Of course I can remember. It was only 3 weeks ago. I was trying to say that since I'm at beginner's level, I was able to answer only the first few parts which are of course not those paragraphs with one question each. However, I did flip through the back pages and I saw a couple of paragraphs with few questions each. But I didn't take a good look at it because I know I'm incapable of reading passages with my ability now.

Yeah, you will need to identify mistakes in sentences but those are simpler than past years. So no worries

Hey, blurcheryl. Thank you very much for the further information about the written test. In Hong Kong, it is going to be next Tuesday, pretty much soon. So it seems like that the format of the Japanese paper is different from last year but similar to the years before the last year. Bad news to me, I just love the last year's Japanese paper.

btw, it's wonderful to hear from that you have passed the written test section and will going to join the interview. I know you would get it!
Actually, some applicants for the MEXT embassy scholarship last year have briefly talked about the interviews they've had in the post on the scholarship of last year. I guess it would be quite helpful if you can have a look at it. It seems like that common questions like why you want to go to Japan, and what do you know about Japan, have you contacted Japanese professors or why not, and some questions on your research proposal as well.
Pray for you can pass the interview part!

btw, seems like that your interview will be July. Here in HK, the written test will be conducted at June 1st and the proposed shedule for the interview will be June 15th.

I called the embassy today, and they told me to ask the professor/ boss to make the 2 copies and put them in the envelope together with the original. ^^

It seems like that the policies are different among different embassies. It's good that you've checked.

Hey, ykk. I haven't taken the test yet. But according to blurche.. it will be more like the paper for 2010 if you check that on Study in Japan, and it seems that the only difference is that they've added a part for finding mistakes.
I'll take the exams both English and Japanese on June 1st. I can tell you further after that.

You're welcome. I just hope that little info I provided will be of help. But I would say you need not worry much for the Japanese paper. I read the posts of previous batch saying that last year's paper was horribly difficult and you scored! So I believe you'll do the same this round.
And thanks for the info on interview questions. Now my problem is that I gotta think of ways to convince the panel that I'm keen on this scholarship. I'm not very experienced with interviews, you see. This will be the 3rd in my life

I wish I can explain more about the Japanese paper but I'm incapable of doing so because I'm just at beginner's level and I couldn't understand most of the questions. My vocabulary is next to zero and I had a tough time reading each question. Perhaps it's a better idea to wait for flidar's feedback once he's done sitting for the exam.

In Poland, written exam and interview are in the same day. Interview is just ten minutes after japanese exam.

In India we have to submit the application form by 31st of May, and exam dates are not yet announced. Though the pattern is that all the exams and interviews are done on the same day. whole day process from 10 am to 6 pm. and results are announced within one month.

For the interview, in my opinion, I think you should not try to convince the panel that you are keen on the scholarship. Instead, I think there are two main aspects that you should convince the panel that you are keen on: the passion and enthusiasms to go to Japan and to study the proposal research plan that you have written. And one thing to add is that maybe to tell them that your research plan is related to your undergraduate study.

Has anyone been called in for tests/interviews in North America yet? For Canada it's been almost two weeks since the deadline to submit the written documents and I haven't heard anything yet.....

Just submitted my application 5 days before the deadline (May 28th).
Now the wait begins.
I'm american but live in Japan now.
How long does it take for a responce after submitting?

Hello everybody.

I'm totally new here. In my country information about this MEXT scholarship came up on 13th May (yes, 2 weeks ago) and deadline for applications is 4th June. I'm a bit nervous because this is my first time to apply for any scholarship. I study Faculty of Economics and i'm interested in applying for master course. My average mark (i'm not sure its a correct word) during studies is 7.0. I'm aware that it is very low so i'm afraid that my chances for getting this scholarship are small. My question to all of us who got the MEXT scholarship last year - what was yours average mark during studies?

Please give me all the tips you think will be usefull to me, because i don't have much time to prepare myself for interviews and tests. When i saw that most of you were preparing for this since January this year, i was shocked. I can't believe that in Montenegro nobody, but few people, know about this scholarship.

To the applicants who have already taken the English tests for this year... was the test similar to last year's (for the 2010 scholarship) or did they go back to using the previous years' exams (for the 2009 scholarship and before that)?

I'm going to take the test tomorrow and I'm quite anxious! Good luck to everybody who's about to take the test tomorrow (and later on)

Usually, applicants are notified the week after the deadline has passed, e.g. deadline in Jordan was 19/5, I was notified about being accepted on 23/5.

English paper: Similar to 2010. I have no questions about it, is clear.

Japanese paper: Similar to 2009, 2008, 2007...?
You can choose the paper A B or C?
The exam contains long passages and questions about the text (like 2010)
or
Contains grammar and vocabulary exercises (like 2009, 2008, 2007...)

Thank you for your help!!! I really need this information because my japanese teacher has to give me precise material to reinforce more kanji/reading/grammar, etc.

I've looked through the Japanese Embassy's (in Morocco) website, and the section for Research Students says that the deadline was on 28/5, not 21. If that's the case, you should hear from them this week.


I don't know why they told you a different date when you asked.. maybe they've changed it? You can call and make sure, but I think the date on the website would be the correct one.


Wish you the best of luck, and hopefully you'll come back and tell us you've been contacted. Make sure to check your e-mail's Spam/Junk Folder; that's where I found my invitation to take the English exam!

Oh! I just assumed that you've applied for the Research Student scholarship. :sorry:

I am not sure how the embassy personnel are handling the screening process. Myself, I didn't want to mail the application so I handed it by hand, and the nice lady told me I will be contacted the following week if my application was accepted, and if it was rejected, I will not be notified at all.

You could call the embassy and ask them; that's the best advice I can give you, unfortunately!
