MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2010: General Discussions.

Hi folks,
I got message from a prof from University of Tokyo that he is ready to be my sensei. Though there are more steps in getting a LoA... Anyone having any experience in getting a Letter of Acceptance from University of Tokyo? The academic unit is Graduate School of Information Science and Technology. I am planning to ask them to FAX it before mailing it to me as it will help me to submit by attachment form on time. I need to get a FAX no. in Japan for this... as I dont think they will FAX it to me in India.

Hi Ajay,

I am also applying to the University of Tokyo's School of Engineering, but in Urban Transport Planning.

When you applied, you had to send all your documents to the Office of International Students (OIS) right? When you applied, did you type of a list of professors you wanted to study under? How long did it take you get a response?

Thanks

Hi I had like 2 profs in my mind while applying in school of engineering. However I decided to take the safe path of asking on prof at a time through OIS. But this is a BIG MISTAKE. The OIS lady will ask you to try of another *University* if that prof rejects you. She also mentioned that she cannt help me further. Fortunately for me another prof accepted me without OIS intervention and hence she decided to give me one more chance. So I was still able to make it... I think you should provide a list of profs...

Another one of my random questions,

Have you guys ever tried calling a professor instead of emails?

Cheers

thats great ekoy! glad to know that you will be getting one from kyushu as well...are u waiting for others too?
my field is clinical psychology..its actually really hard to find a supervisor with the same research area. I have to change my research proposal to suit one of the professors that i asked... and i still havent replied his email..cos i cant come up with a specific topic that is of his interest... :( what is your field?

so far i only got 1 LoA...but maybe i should start emailing other profs from other universities jus in case..

hi NeoXtremeX...i think generally it depends on the professors...i guess its just whether they actually really do check their emails...i sent a lot of emails (cant keep count) and i only got replies from a few..and most of them declined...dont give up...just try emailing more professors...eventually u will get a positive reply...another way is to email the international students division of the university and ask them for some guidance..they might help you get in touch with the professors..good luck!

Ah... sorry for the late reply. My field is on political science - environmental economics.

I've sent about 20 emails and I've even resent some of them... Haha...

I need your help guys. I am applying to 6 universities below.

From these following universities, which one offer MBA program taught in English?

Kyoto University
Tohoku University
Nagoya University
Waseda University
Ritsumeikan University
Kobe University
Kyushu University

My Japanese skill is not adequate enough to study MBA in Japanese.

Thanks

Just to share, i am in the list of the embassy recommendation..in the list of my university of choice i have only listed one which is Hiroshima university under the supervision of this specfic supervisor.i have in fact worked under him for 3 months during my master's research attachment 2 years ago over ther and hes the one suggested tht i applied for this scholarships for my doctorate study..
i am so lucky tht my future supervisor and even the university international office is super efficient in preparing for me the LOA..despite having need to wait for me to slow mail all my original document as requested by them, they prepared my LOA fairly fast and the whole process takes about a week or so...i have posted my loa to the embassy and i got to say im fairly lucky in this matter..
i noticed tht none of the scholar here mentioned bout hiroshima university and i wonder why..perhaps its not the popular choice but i have in fact been to the campus there and i love it very much...hiroshima university is a great campus and perhaps u guys might want to consider doing it there..
finally, i wish all of u the best of luck..hope everything goess well and i will be waiting for end of january with abated breathe..haha

Have you tried looking at the university websites? If they have a program for you, they would post it there.

I recently met the dean of Hiroshima University. It seems like a great school and I actually got a LoA from them already.

I would really recommend it as a school. But i want to be in Tokyo!

Hi all

Got a CoA confirmation from Todai last week! still a long to go huh? best of luck to you all!

Hey guys, i need some advice... Is it really hard to get JLPT 1? I don have any basics in Japanese but i plan to take classes soon. One of the universities stated that I have to be JLPT 1 to be able to join their graduate school. I know that JLPT 1 is the highest level to be acquired..but im still wondering how tough it is...Please do let me know what you think...
Thanks...

Hajimemashite!😊
I have been reading this thread all day and I have really lived through all your sorrows and joys. Just hang in there all of you, wether you've already attained the recomendation from the Embassy or not.

Last year I've putted all my hopes into getting the recomendation from Japanese Embassy in my country and in the end I didn't get it. I decided not give up.
This year I applied once more. The Japanese test was unexpectedly difficult and I thought I wouldn't even pass to the interview. Yet they called me!
And belive it or not the interview is tommorow!!!

After reading all this, after finding out what is happening around the globe, I was soooo furious that my interview is this late in August!
Should I pass the interview (who knows when the results will be) how on earth will I manage to send all the documents by air-mail by the end of August?

And not to metion that I haven't contacted the proffesors yet.
I called Tamabi (Tama Art University), Musabi(Musashino Art University) and Geidai (Tokyo Universty of Arts) a few months ago and explained them my situation, and they only told me to send the application by the end of August, with the confirmation from the Embassy, and then they will decide wether they'll give me the LoA or not.

Additionly, I'm under a lot of stress because this is very important to me.
I only feel sorry now that I've found out about this forum today, of all days, because it was difficult to sort everything by myself.

Well, for first posting I was quite open.😌

It depends how much time you are willing to sacrifice in learning it.
If you are thinking to achieve that level after a year of intensive learning, I don't belive it's possible, sorry.
I've been leafning it for two years now, although I only have hour and a half classes twice a week, and I think I'm JLTP 3, at least I hope so.

JLPT 1 is pretty hardcore. I've heard even some native speakers find i tough. i read somewhere they expect 900 hours of study would do it.. it'll most def take more than a couple years i reckon, if you're starting from scratch.. sowie!

Oh wow, they put you in a bit of a spot, didn't they! Well, my fingers are absolutely crossed for you!! Let us know how your interview went! And don't give up if you might be shy of the deadline. The last time I had deadline troubles with a Japanese university, they gave me a lot of trouble up front, but when I had no way around it, they caved in the end. Never give up!! Ganbatte!! 📣

Please find under Information Engineering, System and Information Engineering, Computer Engineering, System Engineering or Electronic Engineering. It should be under that field. If not possible, just look under engineering. It should be there. Good luck!

Preparation for 2011

Hi,
I'm new to this thread and i'm so happy that i am able to stumble upon such a great forum :-)
I was just wondering what is the process of applying for the monbukagakushou scholarship? I have went to the embassy homepage but just unsure of the process like getting a recommendation letter and etc. :?
I'm currently working in Australia but I am a Malaysian citizen. I was thinking of trying to apply for the scholarship in 2011. Has anyone applied for the scholarship while they were abroad?
Thanks. :-)

Hi everybody,

Greetings from Germany!

Im in ur shoes as well, here in Morocco. and I was told by my recipeient university (hiroshima university) that I will hear from the mext (thro them) early decamber. and they didnt mention to me anything bout being temporarily accepted, they said they receive the list of accepted students from mext at that period. good luck to all of us!

Hello everybody!

I'm guessing that by now most of you have received their letter of acceptance from your prefered university and what not.... so, do you guys reckon its time to compile a list of Universities and Nominees?

I think it would be fun to know who is going to which university, provided they get accepted by MEXT in the end.

NeoXtremeX

It may be fun to come up with a list of nominees and their respective universities. But I am afraid I would be extra dissapointed if MEXT somehow finds it OK to reject me.

Nagashima
I think there is some-one on this thread (or is it a similar one) who was nominated but stays abroad from his home country .

I received my letter of acceptance from Keio University on Sept. 5th. Anyone else who wants to go to Keio?
