Why do people studying Japanese seem to have so much stress? It's like there's always a competition amongst students of the language to see who is the "better" speaker. Who knows more kanji? Who has taken the JLPT? Who knows more keigo than the other person? Who has been told on the phone that they sound like a native speaker?
It seems like studying Japanese is a lot harder than studying other languages. Questions like the above are common and create pressure.
And are Japanese natives good at speaking with those are are non-native? Are they patient or do they make things hard on people learning Japanese?
Where does all this competition come from and is it only Japanese?
