I'm still fine with RPGs since they don't usually require fast reactions or hand-eye coordination. But I'm finding it increasingly difficult to play certain kinds of games and I wonder if it's because of my age. I tried to play Silent Hill Zero, and found myself looking down at the controller to work out which button to press, by which time the mutant had me by the throat. I can only get 80-odd lines on Tetris now. I used to play that a lot back when it was first out on GameBoy and could regularly achieve 200 lines.

Am I past it? 😭

Yes😊

Seriously, do you play as often as you used to? I am not one for those type of games, I only play them occassionally in arcades, and I seem to be better now than I used to be. Most computer games I play are strategy type games, especially the Total War Series. (My Brutii are currently trashing Greece)

Playing games has been my main hobby for about 10 years now - I average about two hours a day. When I was a teenager I didn't play half as much; I had a life back then 😊

But I suppose the kind of games I mostly play has changed, so maybe I'm just out of practice.

Oh, and if I'm past it, what does that make you? You've got five years on me buddy. Talk about the pot calling the kettle :D :D :D

The rules vary a lot when it comes to different versions of Tetris. Are you still playing the GB version when you get 80 lines? 'cuz if you're not, it could be like comparing apples to oranges.

You're probably right. I was playing Tetris Party on Wii. My husband reckons it's because the Wii is so much more powerful than the GameBoy, so the game runs a lot faster.

That could be true of Silent Hill Zero too. It's only on PS2, but since it's a new game maybe it does run faster than the older ones. That's what I'll choose to believe I guess :D

Oh and sorry Pot-sama :sorry:

I'm 34 and play MMORPGs. Many folks my age or older play them. To me, MMORPGs are even more complicated than console games as far as controls go.

I was never into games when I was a teen. Only when I was about 23 or so did I first become interested (first MMORPG was EverQuest). I've played *lots* of different ones since then, and am now interested in World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, Saga of Ryzom, and am -so- looking forward to trying out Aion!

*e-hem*... *^_^*

Power of the console has nothing to do with how hard a game is. Tetris DS is a relatively new game, and I find it way easier. I could theoretically go on forever in Tetris DS due to the infinite rotation rule. I can literally make thousands of lines before committing suicide.

In fact, a lot of people (including me) think games today are too easy.

It is just a matter of getting used to controls. Each game and system is different. Maybe you are just not as diligent as you were when you were a kid. I am 30 and I have been playing games ever since i was introduced to Super Mario Bros at a pizza parlor when I was 6. I don't feel any different, or any less skillful. I only feel less skillful when i have not played for a while or when the controls are new to me.

Some games, especially driving games, are made easier/harder for various markets. European versions of driving games are harder than those made for the US and Japan market.

Why?

(Lengthening message................................)

Yeah, why? That's intriguing to learn...

Some games that I see in the arcade here in the U.S. seem crazy to try and master... I even get boggled whenever I see folks dancin' away on those DanceDance games... in the super-high levels where you can't even imagine how they can read those arrowed directions so lightning-fast!

... did I go slightly off-topic at all? ☝

Try playing some NES-era games and you'll see what I mean. Like, try playing Final Fantasy I versus one of the more modern ones (except XII).

You're right. I've played most of the FF games, and couldn't complete I-IV. Completed V-X2. Haven't completed XII because I can't beat Yiazmat and got bored of grinding.

Do you think they intentionally made them easier?

You're only as old as you feel! I'm seriously thinking about treating myself to a Wii for Christmas!

:)

That's one machine I just can't get into. I have one, just on the principal that I collect consoles, but I've played on it I think twice :D

I like games because I get to lie on the sofa and relax. The idea of jumping around is anathema to me. Maybe I'll change my mind when I can't get in my size 10 jeans anymore :D

Right, let's all book a ticket to Jeffs house for christmas to play on his Wii:D

You're all welcome, provided you bring the snacks! I prefer barbecue potato chips, pretzels, Doritos and grape soda! :D

Tsuyoiko: Well, for me, all the bouncing around is what appeals to me about the Wii. Just playing the sports games that come with the console, especially the bowling and golf games were a whole lot of fun!

:)

I completely agree with this statement..I have to play against other people other-wise I feel asthough I'm hurting the AI's feelings -_-

I mainly play FPS and 2D Fighters myself..high levels of competition(sp?) are welcome ^_^

And as for the OP..your never too old, my grandfather taught me how to play SFII when I was like 6..he was maybe 40 years old.

Ok I someone who is now in my mid 40's, stop that laughing now, and I love to play on me old GC, and at moment am going through the Lord of the Rings games like there is no tomorrow. And no, you are never too old to play games! :)
