Since I'm getting the feeling that these types of questions are going to be coming up frequently enough to warrant this (I'm just speaking of myself here, but others are more than welcome to join in if they have any questions), I'm starting a thread on readings that aren't so obvious and aren't readily found, or that I'm just not so sure about. With that, onto the first question.

The sentence: 余剰米は倉庫に貯 して る。

I didn't see a compound word listed for 余剰米, but 余剰 doesn't seem to work like an adverb from what I've seen, so I find myself wanting to read this as よじょうべい. But, since there's no listing for it in any of the dictionaries I've checked, it seems that よじょうこめ (or, to be more accurate, I suppose, よじょう こめ) would be right, so I've been reading it that way. I'm still not sure, though. What's the correct reading, or at least the one that feels most correct for Japanese?

The correct yomikata for this is "よじょうまい". It means to have left over rice (surplus rice).

Edit: The sentence "余剰米は倉庫に貯蔵してある。" The sentence means, "The surplus rice is in storage in the shed"

You know, I had gone through probably all of the other readings for 米, but somehow that one didn't come to me. In addition to べい and こめ, I thought maybe ごめ, or よね or めい (guess I mistakenly associated it with 迷 or something...). What do you know, よじょうまい is even listed in the IME as one word. Thanks for clearing that up for me. 🙂

No worries Glen, you would have done the same for me.:)
