"suki" does indeed mean to like. To say "want", a different word would be much more appropriate.

The suki pattern is:

A wa B ga suki desu.

"A likes B."

Try rewriting your sentences using this pattern. It's much simpler and more common than "ki ni iru" for the meaning you're looking for.

First off, remember to be more careful with your spelling. "kanoju" is not a word. "kanojo" is, however. Also, it's "ryouri (wo) suru" not "siru".

The only other missising element is to put the verb "suru" of "ryouri suru" in the right form. This is done by adding a "no" afterwards.

Therefore, the finalized version will read

Kanojo wa ryouri suru no ga suki desu.
A wa B ga suki desu.

Do you mean the English word stone? If so, it is
ストーン (sutoon)

If you mean Japanese word for stone, it is
石 いし (ishi)

"san" used with people's name is never written in kanji, it is always written in katakana.

First of all, what dictionary are you using ? If you're looking terms up and still getting the wrong spellings, find something more accurate. Frankly it's a real pain to keep making corrections for low-level, careless mistakes and not something we should have to be doing.

Watashi no kare wa otosan desu. If they understand at all will mean to most Japanese "My boyfriend is my father." Please double check and be diligent about your introductions in addition to spellings.

Okaasan, not Okasan, is mother.

Kanojo wa (kono)shashin no hidari no mono desu. Maybe ?? :?

Okaasan no soba ni otousan ga imasu. = There is father beside mother.

Mei (sans the san) is the niece in your own family. When it is attached to personal family titles, san is a suffix for showing respect to elders, parents, caretakers, etc. It isn't used for your niece.

Chinese name into Japanese name?

OMG yay, I need help like crazy.

The thing is, I want to translate my name into Japanese. The problem is I already have a Chinese name. And since Japanese kanji originate from Chinese characters, I was wondering if my chinese name could be translated and said in Japanese. I would like to know the romanization or katakana/hiragana of my name. And I would like to know if my translated name would make any sense after being translated. Thanks a bunch!!

I'd say the bud is either on/at or tilting towards the top of another stalk.

Two months ago at an English teacher's convention (I wrote meeting, but convention would be better), I was forced to attend an awful class. The class was supposed to teach us how to create good relationships with our Japanese coworkers (perhaps here I ought to have stressed that I am an ALT and used the term JTE), but instead of that, we were taught how to use Japanese puns during our class. The purpose behind the presentation was that if teachers learn how to tell Japanese puns during class, the students will pay more attention to them. But, I thought this was a pretty ridiculous idea. Furthermore, since there weren't any ALTs in the class who could understand the Japanese puns, we spent the whole meeting (three hours long!) growing restless in our chairs and feeling increasingly awkward. -= WOW, I think I tried to do too much in that paragraph. Sorry about that. Anyway, any help is appreciated! =-

Although the above was his funniest pun, I still think it was garbage. Anyway, my point in writing this was not to complain. I wrote this because I hope someone will answer a question about 'iuta.' Recently, I have noticed my friend say iuta instead of itta. But, I don't know whether or not that is acceptable or normal. Please help!


Ok, can't write any more in Japanese cause the brain is dead, but I have a few more questions:

1) In this sentence: でもそれはOKかどうか普通かどうか分かりません。 is it okay to use X kadouka Y kadouka wakarimasen? I mean something like: I don't know if thats ok or normal.

2) How would I say something like 'Everyone felt very awkward/uncomfortable'? 気まずい seemed the best out of the dictionary entries, but I have no idea.

3) In case it was unclear, my question about 言うた is whether it is widely used as a slang equivalent for 言った, or whether its just a quirk of a friend of mine.

4) Any general suggestions about my writing would also be welcomed!

「～との」は「～という」と同じで、誰か他の人の言葉などを引用するときに使います。
伝言をするためのメモに
「○○さんから電話がありました。折り返し電話をくださいとのこと」
と書くことがよくあります。

「と」はその前の部分が引用であることを示し、「の」は引用と後にくる名詞をつなぐ役割があるので、「の」がないとおかしいです。

同じように、「～についての××」というときの「の」も、ないと不自然です。

地震についてニュース ←間違い
地震についてのニュース ←正しい

もうひとつの投稿（Ｃｈａｒｌｅｓさんが書いた日本語についての質問）ですが、英文も書いてみてもらえますか？
その方が、Ｃｈａｒｌｅｓさんが伝えたいと思っていることが正しく書けているかどうか判断しやすいので、みんなから意見をもらいやすいと思いますよ。

The particle ni can only be used with verbs like "morau" or "itadaku" when something is received from a person.

There is grammar that has it acting similarly to "from" in the sense of "due to," almost interchangeable with "de," but that's for the discussion of another time and place...

と思うと、
The first と indeed refers to the situation (feeling or thought of the speaker), while he was thiking something, the bud on the stalk blossomed, as if breaking the train of his thought.
茎の頂に
At the top of the stalk (calling it "top" because the stalk is upright, like a tower, so it is the "top") the bud opened its petals.
に here indicates the place the action (bud opening its petals). It is not "from".
