Why is it that in TV commercials......?

Why is it that in TV commercials when a company uses a song from a Japanese artist that they write who the artist is in the bottom left/right hand corner to give them credit, But when they use a foreign artist there is nothing written or displayed to give credit to the foreign artist?

Please tell if I am wrong, but is there not copyright laws in regards to this? This is something that has interested for a long time.

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me?

It may have something to do with the age of the song. Do you notice this mostly with older tunes? I believe there was a major shake-up regarding copyright law/protection for foreign copyrighted material sometime in the late 60s.

This is very rare form what I have seen. Also the big companies tend to abide by copyright laws, it is the smaller ones that don't.

My first thought when I noticed it was that it was a subtle way of advertising the band as well as the product; it lets the audience know where the music is coming from, so it they like it they can go out and find it without having to go online and do a search for the "background music from that one daihatsu commercial"

It's not always like that, because I know that with the Toyota CM where they use the song "Little green bag" (song from 60's I think) from George bakker, they actually do put the artist name and the song title down.

If you're the owner and don't pay, be careful. Or just wait for a few years before the copy-right will be expired.

For some reason this has bothered me for a long time when ever I saw it. I just wanted to know the reasoning behind it and if it had something to do with a copyright law???

So right haha. ive been thinking of a song i heard months ago and in 2003 i heard a song from a Japanese advert and only found it last week after a member from here recommended it to me lol.

On to the main topic i also have no idea why they do it but maybe they have side deals (Business partnership E.G Asahi sponsors their concerts) or the record company adds it into the contract that they show the name of the artist, you know one of the terms for use. just guesses though.
