Yeah.
I do agree that it is a bit shallow and presenting Japan as sex obsessed, but I have found I can still learn a little bit (not as much as I can learn on here though) and it does make reference to anime and manga that I might want to have a look at. It is pretty interesting, I think it's series 3 on at the moment, but it isn't accurate. The first one in series 3 presented Japan as a racist nation who look down upon any "gaijin" in the country.

This thread in a way is like that... I take one aspect of Japanese society and present it.... If there were no other alternate aspects that you saw then perhaps you would come to believe that yes this is true, all Japanese are perverted, and go to doll love hotels...
So it's always best to get as broad an understanding as possible, find as many different sources of information (preferably not on the internet, and if so, from trusted sources of people who've actually been to Japan...)... and make up your own mind... You'll find that the more information you get, the more your idea of Japan changes, and it doesn't seem as 'bizzare' or fantastical as it once did... Other feelings may replace the old ones that make it seem just as wonderful, but they are grounded, informed opinions.

I don't find this people low at all, I mean everyone has their own thing that might look weird for other people. One person likes chocolate and they other likes dolls... As long as they don't bother me with their dolls (I, myself prefer chocolate so they can bother me with that), I have no problem with them at all.
Finding someone low because of this, is a bit harsh in my opinion.

That is very disturbing, but I agree with you 100%. As technology and human ability progress, so will various sex toys. Its only a matter of time before you can just live out your life in some virtual reality world.

Concerning, people confined to wheel chairs, it would be a very good invention.

Hmm at the moment Michael the Uk media, especially the BBC have made some negative shows and often lies about how Japanese men act. It all kick started when that British women was killed by the Japanese man in Tokyo, our media picked up all sorts such as men reading manga were the hero was a paid rapist and that men read these on the morning train in front of young children.
My opinion on japans so called craze on sex is that its their vice. in the Uk our kids bringe on alcohol and often do drugs but in Japan certain lonely men do weird things with blow up dolls. In the UK people use blow up dolls so it is nothing new, I suppose it just seems a bit bizzare that people actually treat these dolls as girlfriends and buy them outfits, although isn't that what people do with their partners? To indulge their own fantasies, shops exist that sell various outfits such as nurses or maids for their partners to dress up in during sex. Surely it is the same thing, but with doll? It doesn't seem that bizzare, especially considering the things that people do during sex that are more bizzare than anything that could be done with a love doll.

The use of (non-private) pornography in Japan is still seen as an otaku outlet... though I've met my fair share of ecchi friends and individuals, just like in any country...
I do not think that Japan has an especial CRAZE on sex, yet different mores concerning sex, and different tolerances for those who consume sexual images. There is also the commerce involved. There is a vast economy built around the AV industry / hentai manga & books / gravure books, etcetera that no one, lest the government want to see vanish and so dilute the economy.

Thats one thing that made me angry about the movie "Lost in Translation", It showed a scene on the subway where a kid is reading a pornographic manga. So that one scene prompted some of my friends to start thinking, every manga and everyone who reads them is a pervert.

I use craze michael because you can go down streets in japan (cities at least) that are dedicated to the sex industry while its not as bad as Amsterdam lol compared to Manchester its unheard of. Hear people are ashamed to walk into an Ann Summers, maybe Japan are just more open to sex. Compared to the UK the sex industry is big but here there is alot of money to be made selling drugs, illegal as they are but in Japan ive neevr even heard of drugs. If sex isnt Japan's vice then im not sure what could be.
