Earthquake in Ishikawa prefecture

I read about it this morning, and I checked immediately if there weren't any messages about it here on JREF. There still aren't any, which may indicate that no regular member of this forum has endured any damages from the earthquake. For those who haven't seen/heard about it: CNN, Asahi.

I guess I was impressed by the imagery, and I wish everyone in those areas a lot of strength to overcome this disaster.

I awoke to the house shaking, but it was only about a 2 here, so I ended up going back to sleep. I later watched the news coverage and realized what I had felt that morning. I'm surprised that only one person had died, but my thoughts go out to people in Kanazawa all the same. I was going to say something about it here, but I noticed some mention of the quake in another thread (something about when the "big one" was going to hit), so I refrained.

Yep, me too. I was even more surprised about the English version of Asahi.com not having any articles about it at all!! Then I realized it was a Sunday, and articles aren't translated that day probably..

I wasn't damaged physically, but mentally I am still shaking. We were waiting for the elevator on the 16th floor of the hotel and the building started to groan and creak like a boat...then it felt like actually being on a boat. They said that we felt a lot of movement because we were on a high floor. I don't care, it just makes me extremely nervous. I feel bad for all the people who were hurt and the woman who was killed. The pictures and videos are frightening.

I felt it a bit yesterday morning while I was laying on my belly. I wasn't sure if it was an earthquake or my belly rumbling, but after I watched the news 10minutes later I found out that it indeed was an earthquake.

Funny, I was lying on my back. At first I thought "train," because where I lived in Baton Rouge was next to train tracks and the apartment would shake when they passed; then I realized that the only train it could have been would be the subway, and those trains pass by all the time and I never feel anything. Then I thought it was a big truck, but I realized that I didn't hear any engine noise or anything like that. Then I realized that what I was hearing was coming from underground, and it was an earthquake. Then I freaked out a little and hoped it wouldn't get worse, 'cause it was the first one I've ever experienced. Then I heard about it on the news and realized how big it was.

Not anything I'd want to turn in, but anyway... I think that ﾂ震窶忸窶啜ﾅｽﾃ｣ is probably around Richter 4.5-4.9, but that's just a guess.

ﾂ震窶忸 is the strength of the earthquake one feels at the point.
So it varies depending on how you are close to/far from the epicentre.
Richter/magnitude is the scale of the earthquake itself, so one earthquake has only one strength in Richter/magnitude.

The first one in Noto area was 7.1M (magnitude) and in Wajima it was ﾂ震窶忸窶啅窶ｹﾂｭ while in Tokyo it was only ﾂ震窶忸窶啣.

From today's NHK news. A summary translation....the Meterological Agency is updating it's prediction estimates for the chances of a weak aftershock greater than magnitude 5 in the next three days to 20%. Within the following 6 days that that probability decreases to 10%.
While the danger of a strong magnitude 5 has fallen, there were only 9 aftershocks on the 31st compared with 149 the day of the quake, there is concern aftershocks at about the weak magnitude 5 level will continue for some time.

5 and 6 on the ﾂ震窶忸 (Shindo) scale I know are separated into magnitudes of weak and strong. How important an impact that distinction makes on the ground (so to speak...) I wasn't able to judge from reading this story.
