🤖 The Jaybot: JREF's ChatGPT-based AI answer bot

Some of our veteran members might still remember J-Bot, our first AI-based bot user that could hold rather amusing, sometimes confusing, conversations on various topics. J-Bot was based on ALICE (Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer Entity) and gradually evolved in the few years we used it here at the forum (2003-2008). The former J-Bot section was moved here.

Fast forward fifteen years from his last utterance, and J-Bot - thanks to OpenAI - has found a successor, the Jay Bot.

The Jay Bot is a ChatGPT AI language model that will answer new threads or any replies within a thread, provided those replies contain a quote from a previous Jay Bot reply. This has been restricted to a maximum of three replies per thread. This means you can have a short ongoing discussion provided you quote Jaybot's post.

For the time being, the following restrictions are in place:
  • only Kouhai and Sempai members will be able to post in the Jay Bot section
  • the Jay Bot will only reply three times in each thread

With Jay Bot still being experimental, all these restrictions are subject to change and adjustment. We will display the threads posted to the Jay Bot section under 'new threads' but might exclude them in case Jay Bot is flooded with requests.

I used it one time I find a little difficult to find out exactly how to use it and were to use it at maybe you can keep us updated on like a sticky on how to use it maybe you have it already on the form I don't know but I did it the first time and nothing happened second time I finally got a result so yeah it's pretty cool I like it it's pretty fascinating thanks for doing it for us

It seems like you can ask follow up questions by hitting the "reply" button. I found that just posting in the thread or even tagging @The Jaybot doesn't prompt a response.

Just ask questions in plain English and we'll see what we get

Tagging has already been requested and is now being looked into by the developer.

@musicisgood, Jay Bot will reply to any question posted to their forum. You must quote Jay Bot's latest reply to receive a follow-up reply.

➡️ I have changed the "answer mode" to "brief" to get more concise replies.

➡️ Also, I believe it would be better to stick to Japan-related questions to stay true to our "corporate identity." :)

Experimenting with the settings, I have removed Jaybot's reply limit to allow for more follow-up questions. I have also raised the "temperature":

Temperature is a hyperparameter used in some natural language processing models, including ChatGPT, to control the level of randomness or "creativity" in the generated text. Higher temperatures result in more diverse and unpredictable output. Conversely, lower temperatures result in more conservative and predictable output. When generating text with ChatGPT, the temperature can be set in conjunction with the prompt to control the level of similarity between the generated text and the prompt. For example, a high temperature value can be used to generate text that is more different from the prompt, while a low temperature value can be used to generate text that is more similar to the prompt. This can be useful in situations where the goal is to generate text that is similar to a given input, but with some level of variation or "creativity." - Source

Thanks for the heads-up! While Jaybot's main forum (with the hopefully Japan-related questions) is indexed, the NJ sandbox isn't. :)

ChatGPT can now browse the internet to provide you with current and authoritative information, complete with direct links to sources. It is no longer limited to data before September 2021.
