Your favorite Jrock quote that was what someone said, or from a song!

In Machiavellism by Dir en grey, the lyric goes like this:
" hurry up! hurry up! wrist-cut show
hurry up! hurry up! wrist-cut show
no thank you! no thank you! ...good bye!
hurry up! hurry up! wrist-cut show
hurry up! hurry up! wrist-cut show
show time its non of my business....hehehe"

It isn't my favorite song by Diru, 😌 I can't choose between them 😌 but in the beginning of my "j-rock career" I was just told about the lyric to this song and just the part that goes like " hurry up! hurry up! wrist-cut show", and I hated the lyric. I was just thinking wrist-cutting ISN'T a good thing. You see Kyo on stage were he is scratching himself till he is all red and people love it, I was just concerned that the lyric would make uncertain teenagers do something stupid :( It is a fact that a lot of people do wrist-cutting like a "show", either to get attention or as an image result. I'm not saying that all do that, but many. Sorry for the serious post I hope I didn't offend someone, and sorry for the double post😌 ps! WRIST-CUTTING IS A BAD THING!

Juvi : I don't like it to see Kyo hurt himself too! i feel sad when i see him scratching himself, and my heart was shouting 'NO DON'T DO THAT!!' personally, i don't know what kind of fan that person is if they like to see their beloved singer hurting himself just for their watching pleasure.. and some of them doesn't like it too, they posted it in the official BBS.. and maybe kyo is putting on a show for us, because he think it would inject more feelings into the song?? i don't like that kind of show, if he truly sings it from his heart, it would be more than enough for me.

I agree with Juvi and Rika Shinya. I don't want Kyo to hurt himself. :(
The way I thought, it was like in the song Machiavellism lyrics, he expresses the feeling of how it's like putting on a show (I'm not expressing myself well, sorry)... making a comment about the fans like you mentioned, that enjoy to watch it.

I don't mind it if it's obviously fake blood and stuff, and also a certain amount of scratching himself like if he's getting genuinely carried away with expressing the song, is understandable, but I don't like it too much, because I think "is it genuine or is it just a 'shock tactic'?" and I don't like if Kyo do such things just for 'good show'. I want them to make a genuine show... and of course, I don't want people to be influenced to hurt themselves, either.

Nice to see that there is someone who feel the same as me😌
I love to watch kyo on stage, he really is singing with his whole body and making a really great show but, as you said it would be enough to see him sing and living through his lyrics, without seeing him hurting himself and beeing a "role" model for confused teenagers :haihai:

before this, i didn't take the lyrics of machiavellism seriously, because the song is so catchy, and it masks the serious meaning of the lyrics well so i've never given it a thought. 😊 but now, i think of the chorus in a different way

hurry up! hurry up! wrist-cut show
hurry up! hurry up! wrist-cut show <--i think this part is what kyo talks abt the fans, that they like wrist-cut show

no thank you! no thank you! ...good bye! <--and this part is what kyo thinks, that he doesn't like them.

and he sings ''show time its non of my business....heheh'' in his own voice too, other than the high pitched voice..so it might mean that he doesn't like it too and laughs at their sick fetish..

anyway this is getting very confusing.. 😌 maybe the lyrics mean nothing like the one i said,or maybe it doesn't mean anything at all. it's just what i think of it. ☝ feel free to disagree anytime

I would like to argue that he is not "putting on a show" whenever he cuts himself on stage/coughs up blood etc. And Kyo himself gets very pissed when people think or say that.
My mom once showed a performance of "Mushi" to her friends, most of them got disgusted looks on their faces saying, "Why is he doing that?" but one of her friends replied, "He's doing that so that he doesn't kill himself." It's great if most people don't understand the kind of pain Kyo's been through/goes through while singing on stage, really that's wonderful but to some of us what Kyo does is...there's really no words for it. The s**t that can happen in a person's life is sometimes too much to simply cry and scream about. And it's great that most people don't understand 'cause if they did there wouldn't be many of us still living however to look down your nose at it or to say, "no don't do that!! Why does he do that? I'd like him better if he didn't" is wrong to me. That is his way of dealing with the pain. And sure, yeah, he could not do it and just simply sing the words, keeping all that s**t bottled up inside. But if he did I bet you anything his body would be found in his bathroom, dead in a pool of blood. I don't know about you guys but I, personally, would rather he get all that stuff out on stage then actually kill himself.

Initially I thought Kyo's scratching was just a stage act for shock value. Until I read about him getting so emotionally involved in the songs that he has to take out his anger. The fact that he doesn't practice with the band makes it even more evident that even without a crowd he would do this. I'm sure certain antics of his are for entertainment purposes, but I do think some of his self-infliction is genuine.

It does bother me to an extent that he does this, because so many fans of his think it's cool and want to emulate what he does. Young people are especially impressionable. I have a prime example of someone copying Kyo to try to impress me...

I will leave out as many details as possible to shorten it. Basically a friend knew that blood is a fetish of mine (whether it's fake or real). I had introduced him to Dir en grey and he had seen photos of Kyo covered in fake blood. He watched videos of them and asked about the scratching. I explained it to him, but never did I make it appear as if the act turned me on. For whatever demented reason this friend had, he ended up sending me a photo of his chest after he scratched it. They weren't just little scratches either, his chest was red, with lots of deep scratches that were bleeding! I was appalled that he even did this, and to take a photo of it and send it to me! Prior to knowing about Diru, we had a conversation about sadism and masochism. He was by no means masochistic and even said that he was a sissy when it came to pain. Yet he had the audacity to attempt the chest scratching in order to imitate Kyo with the intention of impressing me!

Now that does suck but that is a whole 'nother issue. That does bother me that people think that's something they should copy. If they do it for real reasons then I can except that. But doing it for copycat reasons is just wrong and a waste of life.

My current kind-of-favourite quote is from Dir en grey's Garbage;

"My child flowing down the sewer is a piece of incompetence
Can't grasp anything with my hands"

It's just somehow very ...touching? Weird to say touching when talking about a song like this. Ah, I don't know, but there's just something about that part that's got it stuck in my mind. Funny, kind of... 😌 And another quote like that is from Diru's song dead tree. "I feel love on my forehead at gunpoint". I love it. 😊

Of course he's not just 'putting on a show', but does it for expression of the pain of feelings. I think Kyo does that out of genuine expression, not from 'showmanship' (which some do, but that's beside the point). But still, I heard the lyrics of the song as implying that he thinks that people watch it like it's a 'show'. That is, they revel in the 'shock factor' rather than having a better understanding of what he's trying to get across.

It's great if most people don't understand the kind of pain Kyo's been through/goes through while singing on stage, really that's wonderful but to some of us what Kyo does is...

"Most people... some of us..."
The world isn't divided into people who 'understand' and people who don't. And it's never possible to judge what people understand or how much pain people have felt in their life. I'm sorry, but that tone sounds superior. I'm sure you don't mean it that way, so don't bite my head off; I'm just saying that's the way it comes across.

or to say, "no don't do that!! Why does he do that? I'd like him better if he didn't" is wrong to me

I agree. If someone really did say "I'd like him better if he didn't", well then, they would be liking someone who wasn't really the Kyo that is.

But I still say, "I'd like it better if he didn't". Because I wouldn't want to change Kyo as a person, of course, it wouldn't be Kyo any more... but that doesn't stop me wishing that he didn't feel so much pain.

@ Normphobic: That's a really sad story. I hope your friend is OK now. Just goes to show you have to be careful what you say. And copycat... not good. But how is it possible to stop that kind of thing? There are always some people who will copy.

Too late *bites off head* sorry, couldn't help it. :p
But it is true that most people do not understand it or at least tell themselves they don't. Why do you think it is when someone kills themselves all anyone can say is, "Why??? I don't understand" But do they really WANT to understand? I think not. When you try and explain it they either block you out, tell you to stop, or it's like talking to a brick wall. I am not trying to sound elitists it's just that in my experience a large portion of humanity just doesn't get it.

you said like you understand kyo very much. there's no one who can understand kyo's thinking, and the lyrics are just a small portion of his thoughts that we see

some of us actually has different opinions of the ways to show that we care. you rather see kyo hurting himself rather than pent it up and commit suicide later, that's fine. but for me, i just don't like to see him letting it out by cutting and hurting himself.i know that's his way, but i don't have to like it and gee, i was just expressing my own opinions on that, and how can you say that someone is wrong just because they have different opinions than you? and on stage, where thousands of people looking and cameras everywhere, he does it to let us see it, isn't that called a show, even if it's real of his emotions

When did I say I know Kyo? I don't know him, I don't know what he's thinking, how could I? All I know is what he's said in interviews etc about this subject.
And I simply said it was wrong TO ME. Does that mean it's universally wrong? No. It means that it's wrong to me. It's just that I find the view point...unpleasent. And I don't agree with it which is also my opinion and it's my right AS WELL to state my opinion.
And if you're that determined to call it a "show" or "putting on a show" then fine. I won't stop you. Think that if you wish.

no you didn't say that, but it's the way of how you put this sentence that really gives an impression of it,that's why..
it's great if most people don't understand the kind of pain Kyo's been through/goes through while singing on stage, really that's wonderful but to some of us what Kyo does is...

it would be nice if you didn't sound so sarcastic as well

If you're tryng to get to me to take it back or say sorry then it's not working. As I said before in my experience it isn't something people commonly understand. Now did I say, "it's great if -rika- shinya` doesn't understand the kind of pain Kyo's been through/goes through while singing on stage, really that's wonderful but to me alone what Kyo does is..." No. You seem to have the idea I was targeting you while praising myself which I wasn't.

anyone would get the idea, not just me, that that's the way you mean. i'm not trying to get you to take it back or say sorry. it obviously is getting anywhere

One would think by now I'd be used to people assuming the worst of me. It really does hurt that no matter what I say SOMEBODY here seems to take it the wrong way. Oh, well.

P.S. And NO this is not me having an Angst Party saying, "oooh, look at me, look at me! Look at all my ANGST! Feel sorry for MEEEE!!" this is me simply saying that it doesn't make me feel all warm inside when this happens. Figured I should state that plainly before someone took the above the wrong way too.

See, that isn't a fair question. I can't really say "yes" since you didn't really do anything WRONG and I can't say "no" 'cause that makes me sound like a stuck up *****.

no.... -.-;; i didn't mean it that way. X.X ..well just forget i ever said that. i hurt you too because i was hurt myself so i was apologizing for that.

My opinion on this, is that no ones knows Kyo but Kyo. You might think you can understand him, or feel what he is talking about cause your like him. I don't like it when he does that kind of stuff, because I don't like seeing people hurt themselves. I would never say I would like him better if he didn't do that, cause he woudn't be the same Kyo that I love. I just don't like seeing him do it, yet at the same time its is so moving that you can't look away.

Like I am from New Orleans, my family is from New Orleans, do you know how if felt, to see your city, the place I was born and raised, do you know how much it hurt to see it get flooded and just torn up like that. People always try to sympathize with me, but unless you are from New Orleans you wont understand. And even then, I might not feel the same way that the person next to me who is from New Orleans feels, Or even my aunt and my cousin who was donwn there and experienced it felt. She's my aunt and we are close, but I can never understand how it felt to experience that, even though I did in a way lose my beloved city. Or even my cousin who has property that has been in her family since the 1930's, that was passed down from generation to generation, to have her house completly destroyed.

I think its the way with Kyo, no matter how much you understand his words, his songs his lyrics and his poems, you will never understand him, or anything he does for whatever reasons he does because your not Kyo. And it really irritates me when you have people who are like, downing him cause he does it, or even worse cheering him on.

And while I will agree that he does alot of the stuff like when he used to spit up pudding and fake blood, or when he "pleasures himself" for shock value. But when he scratches, cuts or punches himself I think that is real. I mean he just has so many great performances like Mushi 24KoCylinders, Zakuro that you can really see his pain and feel his pain. And I think that it great that he isn't afraid to show it, or to cry. Kyo once said (this is just me paraphrasing so don't kill me if I get it wrong) that when he sings or write his songs he writes or sings it as if he is that person, and when he performs it he performs it as that person. In my opinion and this is just my opinion so don't slaughter me that not only is trying to show his pain, but that he has immersed himself into being the person he has sung or written about that their pain is coming through the song.

I dunno, maybe it's a cultural difference or something, but I've never once heard anyone say that.

If you do something in front of large crowds of people, you have to accept that it is a show, of some description. No matter how genuinely immersed in your emotions you are, when you have performed live as many times as Dir en grey, you would have to be frankly damn stupid not to twig that you are putting on a show.

That is not to say that Kyo does what he does in order to give a 'more interesting' show. I'm sure he doesn't. IMO, he hurts himself as a way of releasing the pain and expressing his emotions.

CAN PEOPLE STOP BITCHING AT EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!! :angryfire:

Thank you.

Yes! That's what I was trying to say before.

No matter if we love it or loathe it, we have to accept it.

And after all, that's Kyo, and we love him.

I so agree with you, I get sad when people starts to *****:( I was hoping that people wouldn't fight when I posted my post, just discus😌
I don't think we can agree on this "thing", we are all individuals, we are from all over the world= cultural differences, and we have different experiences etc. But I'm glad that most of you seems to have a good view on the subject of cutting yourself, in MY point of view 😌

Now I just hope that all can be friends:haihai:

Please can you help me!

Please, I hope someone can help me.

I am looking for a good quotation from Uruha (Gazette).

I'll tell you the reason.

At work, I was given a supremely boring desktop calendar, with pictures of fascinating eminant personages such as 'chief executive of Aberdeen college' or 'Governor of Ford prison' etc. etc. Instead of enduring it, I've replaced the pictures with pics of j-rockers. ^^ One happy salt cube.

But next to each picture is a quotation, and of course I want to replace those with a quotation from the j-rocker of the month. Some, like Miyavi, I could find on this thread, but Uruha is January and I can't find a good quotation from him. Please help me out! :p

Also, if anyone has time, does anyone know where I can find quotations or interviews from any of?
Nao (Kagrra)
Ruiza (D)
Kozi
Myv
Hitsugi (Nightmare)
Toshiya (Dir)
Aoi (Gazette)
Kaoru (Dir)
or
Tsukasa (D'espa)

I can't resize pics on my machine (stupid -kicks it-) so my choices were kind of random to fit the original... 😌

If you can help me out, I would be so grateful! 🙂
