HI Kirin!
Well if you ask lots of questions, and check out the search menu, im sure you will be able to gather lots of information for your trip!
How long are you going for?
Im going back to Japan in December, and I just found out about the seishin (sp?) 18 kippu, which is the train ticket that can be used for 5 consecutive or non consecutive days, sounds much more appealing than the Japan Rail Pass.
Found it on the search thingee here, so you can read more about it there!
Hmm this has gotten long!

If you want to travel a lot in Japan for cheap a rail pass can be handy.

It's good that you found Jref. I'm sure you can find out what you need here, and then even while you are here. I live in Nagano Prefecture in Aida, Matsumoto. The nature in this area is great, esp. if you're into skiing during the winter months.
