Xenophobia and racism in Japan


So like a "Hi Harry, how's the wife and kids?" type of relationship?

There's a nice lady who I buy tea from every morning at Lawson's who asked me why I switched from coffee, and we have a bit of small talk when I come in, but not much more.

It seems like it supports the idea that you get out what you put in. You put in a lot and got a lot, I put in a little and got a little. I'd say I probably got more than I would have in most places in DC.

I guess if anyone wants my opinion, they will just make it up for me.

And by the way, if I am not in complete agreement with you, then I must occupy the opposite end of the spectrum from you. There is only black and white you see. Grey is just a myth.

Obviously, I believe that when Japanese say they would like to have you for dinner, they mean it as a cannibal would.

One post. Ever. And the OP is gone. Who the hell knows what he wanted to hear? Who cares anymore? I was more interested in accuracy for the sake of others who might read sometime.

But I think there is enough here that people can form their own opinion from reading, then a better one when they actually get here.
 
If Yakuza type guy is there, many people would avoid to approach to him.
If gaijin kids are there many people would want to touch him/her.
if a salesman type of man come to the house, it would say 'nothing to need" for instance.

I think The foreigner is endowed
as for a japanese . it applies "Don't trust a stranger"

I have an endowment, but at my age would rather have an annuity.
 
I was thinking about the same thing, so for you guys in Japan or people that have been there, do the "Europeans" and the "Africans" have the same treatment?
I'm asking because I would like to visit Japan someday when I can afford it but I don't know how "generally" people would react to my presence, I dont even know if there are too many africans visiting japan frequently.

As a visitor you would have nothing to worry about. Japan doesn't go out of its way to mistreat visitors of any type.
 
You'll certainly stand out more easily than whites and hispanics. I know one black American here and he has reported no problems at all living in Hokkaido (not known for a population of blacks). I suggest you go to this web site and get the scoop directly from other blacks, but I don't think you have much to fear. BLACK TOKYO
