X JAPAN Reunites For New Single, Tour

Nearly ten years since X JAPAN's New Year's "farewell" concert and nine years after the death of the band's influential lead guitarist Hideto "Hide" Matsumoto, X JAPAN has officially reformed and is planning a new tour and single, tentatively due before the end of 2007.
According to an article in the Japanese newspaper Sponichi, X JAPAN founder Yoshiki summoned former vocalist Toshi to Los Angeles in November 2006 to work on a song that was written as a tribute to late guitarist Hide, entitled "Without You" (originally released instrumentally on Yoshiki's first album). After an emotional recording session, the two felt that "the puzzle pieces just fit," and decided to officially reunite the band.
Yoshiki is said to be in talks with guitarist Pata and bassist Heath regarding the reunion, with hopes to feature the band lineup circa the group's final performance. While nothing has been set in stone, the tentative touring lineup is expected to include Yoshiki, Toshi, Pata, Heath, and roughly 10 guest guitarists who will perform Hide's parts during various songs in the set.
Current information indicates that X JAPAN's tour will begin near Yoshiki's home of Los Angeles, with the Toshi-sung single release of "Without You" due sometime this year.
Regarding the reunion, Yoshiki stated, "After Hide's death most fans were split between two extreme opinions, either 'you reunite and I'll kill you' or 'if you don't reunite I'll die.' I had trouble making the decision and for a while I wasn't able to move forward. This reunion is actually a first for me as well."

well I'm with first fans... just X JAPAN without HIDE... um can't see it... there'd be a big gap..
 
It will be weird without hide...
I actually don't think that this is such a good idea, some things should be left alone.
 
It would be very wierd without Hide.. Though I believe a reunion with ten guitarists would be nice.. just as a one time tour thing though to pay respect and as a tribute to Hide^^

I agree with you,
and this is a fantastic oppurtunity to see Xjapan in action again.
 
Many people say that "It would not be the same without hide", but others don't really care about that, in my case I don't give a damn if he's there or not: X made its first steps with other guitar players, and some of them were waaay better than hide.

Remember: this is X reunion, not hide memorial.

99.99% will see their dream come true: an X Japan reunion; for me, it would be a dream if Hisashi Takai plays with them again, but I don't think that would happen hahaha.

:LOL:Lets all go to see them...... hmmm well go without me can't afford going to Japan... that feels awfull ever since I gotten into Xjapan I wished they somehow would perform again and now they are I can't go:(
 
SaKeVi I agree with what you say about it being a reunion not a memorial... actually that's exactly what I was talkin about yesterday. I know it's a reunion but I really can't see how, at least in part, it would fail to be a memorial. But I can imagine that for the most part it would be a reunion gig, but there is no way that they could play Forever Love without referenceing. And the expense of getting 10 guitarists to fill one's place... it all points to a degress of becoming a memorial.

GuitarAddict that sounds like a plan... I doubt they will play anywhere near me though!
 
Well.. For me I do care about the whole Hide thing, but still I would love to see them no matter what! For me it will be strange to see them without that pink peacock running around the stage :P Just hope Sugizo will be there :P
 
I could see Sugizo definately as one of the candidates to fill in hide's part. It would be madness if he didn't to be honest!
 
hide kinda was their whole image, but yeah, I think Sugizo would done Hide's job very well. Umm.. And since I'm a huuuge Miyavi fan I wouldnt complained if he played Hide's part. Many of u maybe dont agree with me about that. xD
 
No I totaly do agree. I actually think hide and Miyavi have a lot of similarities and I know Miyavi is a fan. It would definately be an honor for him to fill in. And with his SKIN connection, Yoshiki would certainly cnsider both him and Sugizo. Both of which would make me very happy, as they are musicians I respect a lot... and if any one had to fill in for hide they would definately be among my top choices.
 
Hi all! I'm new to this thread here but I really like X japan, it was the first VK band i knew. Sadly, the day I chance upon X was hide's 9th anniversary. Nevertheless, their song rocks!

After X, I got to know more bands such as Gazette, An cafe, Alice Nine, MUCC and more. hehe. love jrock! I just got my original Dahlia CD too. It's a resale one though, don't know why others do not treasure it. Especially when X is one of the pioneers of VK...haha. But, I'm glad that X is coming back soon!

Looking forward to their comeback, but I hope they retain some of hide's music and flavour. What's X without hide? Afterall, it started with hide...^^

I know you're excited, but please don't mix up X with the annoying and crappy Visual Kei bands.

80's Visual bands were way different from today's Visual Kei; I don't remember watching Visual Scandal, Sekimatsu, Color, Kamaitachi, Rosenfeld, Aion, Fast Draw etc etc band members behaving like drag queens on stage, groping and kissing themselves to be famous among fangirls...

X started with other members, and even their first release under Extasy Records had an awesome guitar player as Hisashi Takai... X started being famous waaay before hide joined the band, he just got famous being a fool on stage; the real and best guitar player of X was Taiji (eventhough he played bass in the band) because he suggested and performed many arrangements to songs, and even hide accepted that.

@SaKeVi: pardon my exuberance...80's VK bands are indeed different from modern VK in some aspects. But I like both. Well, I believe everyone has differing tastes. (:
Oh....but perhaps you were a little harsh on hide. My knowledge on VK is only the tip of an iceberg, so I better not make any comments =x But thks for the info. I knew about some info on Taiji, but have never heard of Hisashi Takai. I think there's still much for me to understand and learn about VK!

P.S The other 80s bands you mention, I have not heard them before. Maybe I shall go try searching for their songs and videos. Any songs you would like to recommend?

Oh sorry, I would like to add on that hide might not be the best guitar player in terms of skills. But I believe that being a best guitar player or rather a musician is much more than that, charactor and personality counts too. And that, with his skills, are what attracts me to hide's music. Fight-oh! (:

Yeah, they're way different, starting with the name: Visual Kei fashion started with your glorious Mana; before that, they were just known as Visual bands

For me (and some others) Hisashi Takai was the best guitar player X ever had; his skills and music arrangements to songs (and the songs he composed and X played) were just awesome. Unfortunately he left the band in 1986, but he was definitely important to raise X's reputation among indies scene.

Seikimatsu is a legend in Japan!! I can't believe you don't know them :eek:

Color is a band that was close with X members; in fact all of X members helped in a Color LP with the chorus of the songs. They were a rock band that sounded like punk haha.

Rosenfeld is just awesome. In fact, X stole a riff of their song B (from 1986 and renamed later) to make Blue Blood... not many people know this, but that's awful (stealing riffs ¬_¬)

Visual Scandal was a Glam band from 1980, their music was hard to find, but they have released many stuff lately, so you could find some in p2p programs.

Kamaitachi... a crazy band that played as well songs making fun of a pop idol's death (Yukiko Okada) as ballads.

You are so right, hide will never be gone, neither will X . Yes they might be old, but they're basically legends, for the lack of a better word to come up with. It's like saying Malice Mizer is over with. They might not be together anymore, Kami may have died, Kozi went solo, Mana's in Moi dix Mois, Yu~Ki no one has heard about, Gackt went solo, and who knows about Tetsu and Klaha, but the point is, is that these two great bands live on in the hearts of their fans. Never will they get old. So long as they are in our hearts, both X Japan and Malice Mizer will never die, same goes for hide, the guitarist X lost and Kami, the drummer Malice Mizer lost. New fans are born every day so no, X Japan will not fade
